In honor of Cinco De Mayo, I thought I'd share one of my newest discoveries, Rodrigo Y Gabriela. I've been hearing these musicians' names for a while now, but I hadn't heard their music until the other day, when they were interviewed on NPR. I was utterly charmed by the pair, who met in Mexico City as teenagers but are now based out of Dublin.
Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero have taken their shared love of heavy-metal music and created their own style of Hispanic-influenced acoustic guitar, which sounds like flamenco but is structured like rock. Ideal for a Cinco De Mayo party, right? The duo's self-titled debut album, which landed on the Irish charts, came out in the State in October.
