Song of the Day: LCD Soundsystem, "All My Friends"
After hearing the new LCD Soundsystem album, Sound of Silver, I have to say: I have severely underestimated James Murphy. I've always liked his style — clangy and aggressive with lots of boogie-inducing beats — and I'm still addicted to "Daft Punk Is Playing at My House" off the band's debut album.
But never has Murphy's signature sound been as strong or defined as on Silver. I mean, wow. (You can steam the entire album online at AOL Music, if you're interested.) My current song obsession is "All My Friends," which opens with an impossibly long piano intro then cleverly gives way to the song's first words: "That's how it starts... The song just hurtles forward from there, complete with a Pink Floyd reference followed by the line "one of the ways that we show our age." So awesomely deliberate. To listen, read more
