Brandon Dumlao had an obvious disadvantage, being shuffled in at the last moment to replace Billy Bell, whose illness took him out of the show. It was fair to cut Brandon, in the strictest sense — his waltz with Pauline wasn't electrifying, and he had to be judged on the same level as the other dancers. On the other hand, it was unfair because he was new — which Nigel remedied in his promise to talk to Fox about letting Brandon compete next season. Aw, Nigel!
That said, I'm glad it was Brandon and not Russell; I was surprised to see him in the bottom, and indignant about it — his partner Noelle couldn't dance due to injury and Russell had to make do with his choreographer — in a style (foxtrot!) far from krumping. Phew. I shouldn't be this invested in a contestant so early, but I can't help it with Russell; I've been rooting for him since the beginning.
