Ugly Betty didn't have its own session at this Summer's TCA press tour, but executive producer Silvio Horta did stop by ABC's showrunners panel (delivering one of the best lines of the press tour in the process).
Afterwards, a few other reporters and I huddled with Horta to find out what's on tap for season three of Betty. While he didn't, you know, reveal which guy Betty chooses, he still had a lot to say about Betty's growth, Lindsay Lohan's arc, and what will become of Hilda and the coach. Curious to see what he had to say? Just read more.
- The season premiere is going to be a doozy. "There's so much that happens in the first episode that sets up the rest of the season," Horta said.
- The theme of the third season is growing up. "[Betty's] lost some of the focus that she had when she started this job," Horta said. "She's going to make this commitment to do certain things and act as a grownup. There's going to be some big changes in her life."
- As for Lindsay Lohan, she'll be there as a contrast to Betty, a mean girl from high school whose life has taken a turn for the worse (burger-flipping style). "Lindsay brings a reputation, but I've always loved her," Horta said. "From Parent Trap to Mean Girls to Freaky Friday, she delivers."
- With Patricia Field now in charge of the show's wardrobe after its move to New York, Betty is going to get a little more fashionable. But just a little: "She's still going to have her braces and her glasses, but if she didn't at least try to change . . . she's worked at the magazine for two years!" Horta said. "But she doesn't necessarily have the best eye for fashion. She's going to screw up a bit."
- New York also means more real players from the fashion world are likely to turn up on the show: Horta said Dolce and Gabbana already wants to be involved.
- Will Amanda ever find her father? "Maybe," Horta said coyly. He still likes the idea of exploring the background of Amanda's character: "We just see the girl who's in the circular desk. What's she doing here? How did she get here?"
- Marc will be getting some more meaty stuff with the return of his boyfriend, Cliff. Yay!
- Things are going to get a little sticky with Hilda and the Coach. His wife will appear at some point, and Hilda's family won't be too thrilled about the relationship, either.

sooooo exciteddd can't wait for the premiere!!
1i can't wait
!!
2Yay! More Marc and Cliff!
3Aww, I've been thinking about breaking up with this show, but more Marc and Cliff sounds like a winner to me. I'm re-interested now.
I'd really like to see Betty get back on track- I felt like she lost a lot of what made her endearing in the second season.
4i am glad to hear that marc will have more of a presence - hopefully his character will be explored more. I am looking forward to the whole Daniel as dad plot and wonder where that will go.
5I can't wait to see the third season, sounds so good.
6Thanks for the update Buzz. I was ready to give up on UB, but now I'm eager to stay on board, especially since Cliff is back! And, I actually am looking forward to seeing what LL does with her role; I haven't given up on her yet.
7Ugly Betty was really disappointing last season (ever since they had Henry knock up Charlie, which I thought was stupid) but I'm hopeful that the next season will be good even though (SPOILER ALERT) Christopher Gorham (Henry) is not returning because he didn't want to move to NYC (END SPOILER). I know I was one of the few who preferred him over Gio, but he was soo wonderful in the first season and then it just went downhill from there. I'm excited that we will finally get to learn more about Amanda and that Cliff will be coming back as Marc's boyfriend. Yippeee!
8Finally, Horta speaks!! Yes! It looks like this upcoming season is going to be amazing. No more sad days. Welcome more-fashinable Betty in the real streets of New York... perfect! Just one thing missing: what about Gio?!
9Are they going to finally ask Freddy Rodriguez to sign a regular cast contract? I hope these rumors in the web that he has "a lot of projects so he won't be showing up much next season" are nothing but that: rumors.
Gio is a really interesting character and Rodriguez is hot right now in the media. I hope to see more of him next season.
yay for marc and cliff! they were so adorable together
i hope lindsay does deliver like horta believes. i think she's a good actress, so i'm looking forward to her role
10This is one of my favorite shows!!! So excited for it to come back. I really want to know who Betty chooses, but after reading Californiagirl's spoiler alert I'm thinking it might not be Henry. But also seeing how the new season will be about Betty growing up and getting back to the things she wants to do, it might be neither of them. I also can't wait to see what happens with Daniel's storyline as a dad and also because at the end of last season he was slowly loosing any power and influence he had to Wilhelmina. And of course can't wait to see how the whole Willie and Christina pregnancy thing plays out and see what new antics Willie and Marc will be up to. Can't wait for September!!!
