Bad news for folks who were hoping to see The L Word's Alice in prison or Matthew Perry getting foul-mouthed: Showtime has passed on both the L Word spin-off and Perry's comedy The End of Steve.
Steve featured Perry as a bitter afternoon TV talk show host, with a script co-written by Perry and Peter Tolan. Showtime once thought the duo would be "a twisted match made in heaven," but apparently the final product didn't seem right for the network. Word is that the show is still looking for a home on other cable networks, though. Meanwhile, Showtime's pass is the end of the road for the L Word spin-off, which would have featured Leisha Hailey's Alice in prison with a new group of characters.
Two pilots are still possibilities for Showtime: Possible Side Effects, a drama about a family in the pharmaceutical industry starring Josh Lucas and Ronna and Beverly, a comedy based on YouTube sketches that Weeds creator Jenji Kohan is developing for TV.
I was excited for Matthew Perry's project, so I'm bummed that it's not making it to Showtime, but I'm still crossing my fingers for Ronna and Beverly. What about you? Are any of these shows you would want to see?

Nooooooooooooooo! I was so looking forward to the return of Matthew Perry. I hate that 17 Again is the only way I can get my Matthew fix.
1matthew perry is sooooo underrated
hes so funny!
2that kind of sucks for the L-Word. i was kind of looking forward to seeing how things change after jenny died - and how they were going to show who killed her.
3It's probably for the best for the L Word, women's prison show did not sound like much fun.
4I enjoyed Matthew Perry in Studio 60.
As far as The L Word goes... The end was a BIG disappointment.
5I mean, it was obvious that the were heading for a spin-off, but they totally disrespected the tv series with that end. It was more like a teaser, an ad for the spin-off than a good ending for the series.
It was a shame for their fans that they were following for so many years.
Molly I agree completely.
Poor Matthew Perry, I really wish he would get a break, That Studio 60 had SUCH potential.
6I adore Matthew Perry, and it would be great to have him back on TV. The show sounds hysterical.
7NNNNNOOOOOO!!! I was so looking forward to my Alice fix! First Queer as folk then the L Word...now this!!!! Deep sigh:(
