Shopaholic Makes a Movie

Given the success of Bridget Jones' Diary and any number of other "chick flicks" based on chick lit, I'm surprised it's taken this long to hear news about a movie based on the Sophie Kinsella Shopaholic series. But alas, now the time has come for a film all about Becky Bloomwood and her wacky adventures. ComingSoon reports:

P.J. Hogan (Peter Pan, My Best Friend's Wedding) will direct Confessions of a Shopaholic, an adaptation of the bestselling novel by Sophie Kinsella. Jerry Bruckheimer will produce.

Shooting begins this November so I'll be on the lookout for upcoming casting news. Who do you think should play Miss Shopaholic herself, Becky Bloomwood?

YAY!! I'm so excited. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Shopaholic books. I've read all of them, 3 times at least. The last one, Shopaholic and Baby, SO good. After reading Shopaholic and Sister I thought there should be another one with her having a baby, so I was THRILLED to read Shopaholic and Baby. These are the type of books you can read completely and then start at page one and read it all over again. I'm so ecstatic that we can now watch THEE Becky Bloomwood on the big screen. I've read all of Madaleine Wickhams (Sophie Kinsella's real name) books. I love her style of writing. I recommend it to everyone.

To Rydia - You might want to try Arabella Weir - she's a British Comedian, I've read 2 of her books - "Does my bum look big in this" which was the catch phrase of a comedy sketch character she played in the Fast Show. Her second book - Onwards and Upwards was better, I think. Hope you like them :-) Siobhan

I LOVED this book and Just read it! It's even weird that I found out today they were making the movie! Anyway, Anyone else have suggestions on more fun brit lit like this book?? I have read Sarah Mason's books and those are killer too! Soooo Excited!!

I'm really not sure about the casting - Isla Fisher just doesn't feel right - she's got red hair for starters - if you've read Shopaholic and baby you will know why this just doesn't work!! Becky Bloomwood was so English and I envisaged a very English actress as Becky i.e. Kate Winslet. I will be so so disappointed if they do not do these wonderfully written and entertaining books justice due to bad casting (also, the film should be based in London!!!) I'll wait in anticipation for the film and will try to give Isla the benefit of the doubt but for me she is nothing like how Becky was described in the books....

I think Reese Witherspoon or Sarah Michelle Gellar should be Suze, not Becky I like the idea of Rachel Bilson playing Becky, or else me of course :P (I always picure Becky looking like me only older) And Chad Michael Murray just has to play Luke I know he's american but so is Luke and C.M. Murray is soooo hot I can't wait to see the movie

Wow - I would love to see Emily Blunt play Rebecca Bloomwood but it seems the roll has been filled by Isla Fisher....well, I think she'll be great too. I wonder who should play Luke though. He's intelligent but sometimes a little oblivious to situations, smart and good looking but without trying too hard and he's very smooth so...maybe....Dermot Mulroney????Although he's a little older than Luke is in the book.

Becky is British so no Reese or Rachel. Also in the book she isnt a gorgeous glamour queen. So I hope they cast someone normal.

IMDB has Isla Fisher playing Becky... don't know if that's definite, but she would be great! (Also lists Krysten Ritter as Suze... not sure who she is...)

US Weekly reports that Isla Fischer ( wedding crasher, engaged to Sascha Baron Cahon ) is in works to play Becky Bloomwood!!!!!!

I also agree about Emily Giffin's books "Something Borrowed" & "Something Blue" - those books were AWESOME! If they made that into a movie, wouldn't Megan Fox be an awesome "Darcy"??!!

I can't wait for this! This is one of my FAVORITE books... As for characters, I definitely see either Emily Blunt or Martine McCutcheon playing "Becky", Michael Vartan playing "Luke" and Cat Deely playing "Suze".

No, Luke as GOT to be played by Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (from Bend it like Beckham). He's good to look at, and he could do the comedy perfectly! Oh, and either Emily Blunt or someone new for Becky.

I have no idea. I just hope the retain the Britishness and the humor. When they made "The Devil Wears Prada" they really toned down Miranda's viciousness and added a boyfriend and some things that I'd wished they left as was. But I'll still go see it. I want to know who'll play Sacha actually.

What about LUKE?! Who should play HIM?!!!! MUST be a major hottie! But I can't think of anyone right at this moment! >_<

I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! The Shopaholic Series! Kinsella is one of the best at writing chick lit! I've been waiting for this day to come! Yay! And I think maybe Anne Hathaway for Becky? She is my ABSO-FREAKIN-LUTELY favorite actress! She's so perfect for this role!

My friends and I have debated this topic for months. Our current choices are Sarah Michelle Gellar for Becky and Dermot Mulroney for Luke. Though Emily Blunt is a good choice too. :pepino:
