Sesame Street True Blood Parody: Hilarious or Horrifying?

What's the least appropriate show that the nation's most beloved children's program could reference? If you guessed True Blood, you get a gold star. On this season of Sesame Street, you'll get to see the sex 'n gore-filled show used as a muse for a skit called "True Mud." In a joint just like Merlotte's, a puppet that resembles Bill is attended to by a puppet that looks like Sookie, and just like the series's opening scene, the Bill puppet makes a strange request. But on Sesame Street, the stranger wants mud, not blood. Watch it now and let me know what you think after you stop being weirded out.

It's the same kind of parody that's been on Sesame Street since I was a kid. I don't think it's inappropriate at all. And while I'm really not a huge fan of Katy Perry I think the whole banned from Sesame Street for too much cleavage is so ridiculous. I bet half the parents who are objecting to her outfit play her salacious music with their kids in the car and don't think twice about it. It's a joke in my opinion and I think the creators of Sesame Street totally copped out on that one

studio, that's probably because katy perry is more obnoxious than a room full of elmos.anyway, i didn't think this was one of sesame street's best parodies, but it's not inappropriate.

The kids have absolutely no idea what the parody is from, much like every parody on a kids show, they just see a funny scene. Her outfit doesn't bug me, but it is NOT the same, for one, she was nearly falling out and obviously you could never be athletic in unstable clothing. By the time they are old enough to understand it, they are either old enough for an explanation about why the show is inapropriate or old enough to watch for themselves.

So...parents are OK with their kids watching parodies of True Blood and Mad Men, which are filled with profanity, alcohol and sex, but they're not OK with watching Katy Perry sing and dance in the equivalent of an ice-skating costume?

i think its really funny. I would say 95% of kids shows drop in parodies and clean jokes for adults anyway, and I've always liked them.

I as an adult think it is hilarious and a great parody. My only question is this, have we really become so uncreative that we can only parody rather than coming up with true original material?

I think it's funny. Kids won't get that it's a parody of a blood/sex filled show anyway, and if they do, then their parents already have a load of issues to deal with.

I didn't realize until I was an adult how brilliant Sesame Street really is. The parody is obviously done for the adults that are watching with their kids. This isn't new. I've seen Desperate Houseplants(parody of Desperate Housewives) and Preschool Musical(parody of High School Musical) and many others. They're done in a way that's appropriate for kids, but gives a little something to their caretakers.

Hopefully they're just doing this for the parents who are watching with their kids. Like anon, I doubt that any kid would get the reference to True Blood. However, if that's the case, then why even parody it to begin with?

I think it's funny! The kids who are watching Sesame Street aren't even at the age to know what the show True Blood even is. I don't think they would even know it's a parody. Plus, there is no sexuality in the skit whatsoever, so I don't see what's so wrong with it.
