The premise of Rabbit Hole can be summed up in one sentence: a married couple grapples with their grief eight months after their young son, Danny, is killed in a car accident. John Cameron Mitchell's drama is heavy to say the least, but versatile performances from Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart as the couple in question make the film heartbreaking in an engaging way, rather than overwrought and emotionally manipulative.
On the surface, Becca (Kidman) and Howie (Eckhart) seem like a picture-perfect couple. When the movie opens, housewife Becca is making dinner in their gorgeous kitchen as good-natured Howie arrives home wearing a suit and a smile. Within a few minutes, we realize that Becca and Howie are just putting on an act, and though the spouses are doing their best to get back into an old routine, the film's message is clear: when you've lost a loved one, you can't ever go back. But how do you move forward?

Nicole Kidman had husband Keith Urban by her side last night for the NYC premiere of Rabbit Hole. In the intense drama, Nicole plays a parent dealing with the loss of a child, and the role is already getting her lots of Oscar buzz. Nicole was asked about the potential for another Academy Award win yesterday, and she said, "You never know and you just hope for the best. I suppose the biggest thing for me is that the film connects with people, because I feel very strongly that the film is special." She has received other accolades so far, starting with a Best Female Lead nod at the Independent Spirit Awards. Nicole was joined on the red carpet by costars Sandra Oh and Aaron Eckhart, who both moved on to the afterparty to pose for funny photos. Jon Hamm also showed his pretty face, and interesting new haircut, with girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt. Nicole and Aaron apparently struck up quite a friendship while working on the movie, and now she's excited to find him a nice lady so he can finally put his bachelor days behind him.

Mark your calendar for even more Fall TV: the doctors of Grey's Anatomy return Sept. 23, picking up two months after we last left Seattle Grace and the traumatic shooting spree that nearly killed Derek. But Derek's back and looking like the poster child of health in these new photos from the season premiere (just check out that perfectly styled hair!). In the pics, he addresses several members of the hospital staff, including Meredith, Teddy, and new series regular Jackson. Patrick Dempsey and his onscreen love Ellen Pompeo reunited yesterday in LA to work on the upcoming season of Grey's Anatomy. They're back on set after a Summer hiatus that allowed Ellen to spend time with her daughter, Stella, and Patrick to shoot Transformers 3 with Shia LaBeouf. Their series returns to TV Sept. 23, and it seems as though there will be a wedding in store for some of the other characters — click here if you want to spoil the surprise.

We already had one look at all the gorgeous ladies on the Emmys red carpet, but many of the other ensembles were also amazing. Heidi Klum kicked things off in a dress that perfectly showcased her growing baby bump, while Tina Fey picked out a number in similar black. Leighton Meester was quite a contrast in white, looking pretty with her red lips. Ginnifer Goodwin and Mila Kunis, meanwhile, added color to the carpet with their purplish frocks. I'm totally impressed with the Emmys red carpet this year! There was some good variety, experimentation, and color. This lineup of the bests of the night are all different; and it was really tough narrowing it down. I have a few favorites, and you're looking at a couple of them — who was yours?!

Sandra obviously doesn't need to get very done up to look gorgeous, and tonight she followed her usual red carpet rules: pretty, softly waved hair, a neutral pink lip, and eyeliner that follows her lid precisely to emphasize her eyes instead of overpowering them. It's a winning combination, and she always looks great as far as I'm concerned, but what's your feeling about it?
