It's been 24 years since Roseanne Barr premiered her comedy series Roseanne on ABC, and now the comedienne is ready to star in another sitcom. News recently broke that NBC purchased Barr's upcoming show Upwardly Mobile, a series revolving around a family that lives in a trailer park. It got us thinking about Barr's original TV family, the Conners, and what they've been up to since leaving Lanford.
John Goodman Is Looking Better Than Good!
There are a slew of actors that I've come to know as the funny, roly-poly, doughboys of showbiz, such as Drew Carey, Jack Black, and John Goodman. But wait — as you can see from the photo below, Goodman has dropped a significant amount of weight. The almost 58-year-old actor revealed his dramatic weight loss on the red carpet at Thursday's AFI Tribute to Mike Nichols in LA.

The before photo to the left was taken in May 2004 and what a huge difference. In a 1992 interview with Entertainment Weekly, the former Roseanne star who's now starring in HBO's new series Treme, admitted that he was sensitive about his weight. He was constantly trying to take it off although he said, "I lose it, I gain it back. No big deal.'' Well it looks like he got it right. There's no word on exactly how he lost what is estimated to be 100 pounds, but his publicist said it was through "diet and exercise." Nice to see the old standbys of weight loss getting some press. Great work John! It's always inspirational to see someone win over the battle of the bulge.
Roseanne Is Single, "Rejuvenated," and Ready to Mingle
Roseanne Barr recently appeared on The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson to discuss her newfound single life, her ideal mate, and being "over it." Ahem, vaginal rejuvenation surgery (and a brand new "vajunior") is a funny way of being over it, if you ask me. Craig went on to ask how Rosie passes the time without sex in her life. She replied, "I tell jokes." Now I can't argue with that.

Flashback: A Young George Clooney on "Roseanne"
I knew George Clooney had a cameo on "The Facts of Life." I didn't know he played Roseanne and her sister Jackie's boss on "Roseanne." I am one of the few straight-ish women who doesn't get weak at the knees for George Clooney. He's just a little too smarmy or something for my tastes. But for all of you out there who find him irresistible, here's a clip of a much younger and skinnier George. Cuter then, or now?
The Results Are In: Recast "Roseanne"
Every Wednesday on BuzzSugar, I post a Recast challenge, where I ask you to choose new actors for a classic TV show or movie. The reader who submits the best cast wins a BuzzSugar t-shirt!

I loved all the lists submitted for this week's recast, especially your picks for Roseanne and Darlene, one of my favorite mother-daughter combos on TV. A couple of you — ailene and Macmeggy — picked Kelly Osbourne for Darlene, and I especially loved sweetheart_450's choice of Alia Shawkat, aka Maeby from "Arrested Development." Comedian Lisa Lampanelli was an unexpected Roseanne pick from Loz2Hi and LesleyP825. And several of you had the brilliant idea of casting Joan Cusack as Jackie.
It was a tough call, but my overall favorite list this week came from CaterpillarGirl! To see her cast list and a new cast photo, read more
Rewind: This Week's Buzz
- Happy August! I kicked off the last full month of summer by telling you about some things I'm craving right now.
- So far, I'm digging the Bob Dylan remix, and I really like this Matt Pond PA song, too. Carrie Underwood's new single, not so much.
- Looking forward to fall TV? I've got some early thoughts on "Bionic Woman" and "New Amsterdam" and some hints about what's next for "Heroes."
- I'm wondering if you read spoilers, if you think Jimmy Fallon could be a late-night host, and whether you'd rather read the book or see the movie first.
- Speaking of books into movies, the Lovely Bones adaptation has some more new cast members, while Cameron Diaz is taking on My Sister's Keeper.
- Can you make heads or tails of the Dharma video Phasekitty saw at Comic-Con?
- I might not have liked Andy Samberg's movie much, but he and his friends were charming and funny when I interviewed them in person. So was Omar Epps.
- We heard about a few disastrous projects this week: Maxim's movies, the now straight-to-DVD Blonde Ambition, and Simon Cowell's big-screen "American Idol."
- Have you given any more thought to how you'd recast "Roseanne"?
Recast "Roseanne" and Win a Prize!

Every Wednesday on BuzzSugar, I post a Recast challenge, where I ask you to choose new actors for a classic TV show or movie. The reader who submits the best cast wins a BuzzSugar t-shirt!
For this week's challenge, let's take a look at "Roseanne," a TV family that got much closer than most to portraying real life. If you could recast this lovable, working class family with new actors, who would you choose to play snarky Roseanne and her crew of kids? What about Roseanne's husband Dan and her sister Jackie?
Leave your entry in the comment section below, and I'll pick one winner to feature Tuesday, August 7, complete with a "new" cast photo. To see a list of characters to recast and a photo of the BuzzSugar t-shirt, read more
Most Memorable TV Moms and Daughters
This Sunday is Mother's Day, and to celebrate, I wanted to round up some of the TV mother-daughter pairs I've found most memorable over the years. There's something special and sweet about watching moms and daughters grow and change together, even when they don't have the healthiest of relationships. Check out my list (and don't forget about my roundup of memorable TV and movie mother figures), then let me know which mother-daughter pairs are your favorites.
- Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, "Gilmore Girls" (at right): Loralei and Rory's relationship epitomizes the kind of fun, casual, girly rapport many of us wished we had with our moms during the teenage years. Having had Rory when she was a teenager herself, Loralei is an absurdly hip mom who has passed down to Rory her love of cheesy movies, penchant for extremely unhealthy food and a fast-talking language only the two of them seem to truly understand. All of this makes Loralei and Rory one of the most endearing mom-daughter combos in TV history.
- Roseanne and Darlene Conner, "Roseanne": Roseanne was sometimes a major embarrassment to her kids, and her relationship with Darlene mostly consisted of good-natured teasing. But Roseanne was one of the first moms on TV to be like a lot of real-life moms: a wise-cracking, no-nonsense iron fist with a heart of gold.
