Rooney Mara was the first to arrive at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala — and with that, our red carpet coverage is under way! The gala cochair stepped out in a custom white Givenchy Haute Couture gown, a fitting choice considering her penchant for Riccardo Tisci creations and the fact that the designer also happens to be one of the evening's cochairs. The dress featured an allover floral embroidery, exposed zippers, ruffles, and a series of dramatic skin reveals. To finish, Rooney rocked a dark punk-inspired makeup look, Jennifer Meyer rings and Givenchy sandals. Are you into it?

Jude Law and Rooney Mara walked the red carpet at the Berlin International Film Festival today to premiere their project Side Effects. The costars debuted their thriller along with director Steven Soderbergh at the annual event, which has also brought out films like Les Misérables, Promised Land, and Amanda Seyfried's Lovelace.

Rooney repeated the stylish slicked-back bun she wore to the Side Effects screening and donned an embroidered black Valentino dress with a pair of Christian Louboutins. Jude and Rooney joined the growing list of stars at the Berlin Film Festival to present their film after they premiered Side Effects in NYC with Channing Tatum and Catherine Zeta-Jones at the end of last month.

It's been a star-studded few days in Berlin, where Anne Hathaway, James Franco, Rooney Mara, and many more celebs have popped up to premiere their films at the Berlin International Film Festival. Today, Rooney Mara and Jude Law met up in the German capital to present their film, Side Effects. Earlier in the festival, a Chanel-clad Anne linked up with Les Misérables costar Hugh Jackman to promote their hit project. Their costar Amanda Seyfried was pulling double-duty at the festival, where she premiered Les Misérables as well as her upcoming film Lovelace with James Franco and Peter Sarsgaard. The week began with the SAG Awards and ends Sunday with the Super Bowl, a busy schedule that set the stage for a number of celebrity appearances and the chic eventwear to go with them. Not all were straight from the red carpet; another day in the life of Miranda Kerr served as yet another example of the most sophisticated street style, while Jessica Chastain showed off a gorgeous coat and a covetable bit of Dolce & Gabbana arm candy while out and about in NYC. It's easy for a girl to get torn between a romantic, whimsical look and a badass, sultry one, but Rooney Mara showed us how to perfectly mesh the two. The Side Effects actress was out last night wearing a smoky eye that was more ethereal than edgy. Instead of moody metallics and blacks, Rooney smudged grays and lavenders. The result was a soft shadow look that was perfectly balanced with her bold brows and sleek dark hair.

The trick to this look is blending and diffusing. Swipe on a shadow like Bobbi Brown Eye Shadow in Rockstar ($21) on your lids and then kick it out into a cat-eye shape. Then, blend a soft purple hue like Pur Minerals Eye Shadow in Lavender ($14) into the crease. Using a fluffy shadow brush, blend the two shades together until they seamlessly melt into one another. Skip your eyeliner, but add at least two coats of a volumizing mascara like Laura Mercier Full-Blown Mascara ($24). For the final touch, don't forget a soft pink on your cheeks and lips. You'll look heaven-sent.

Just the night before, Rooney Mara joined sister Kate on the red carpet for the premiere of her new show. Now Kate is returning the favor. The actress stepped out for the NYC premiere of Rooney's new film, Side Effects, and even followed up with a sweet tweet about her sister's performance. Aside from the family bonding, the sisters' arrivals again gave us a side-by-side comparison of their personal styles. They set the stage for a style battle with obvious contrasts. Rooney opted for a creamy white Alexander McQueen confection and Kate stepped out in a flirty LBD. But color palettes aside, there are a few common denominators. Each dress boasts a feminine fit-and-flare shape and a more fashion-forward cut. Kate's is certainly a more understated look, and the true beauty of Rooney's dress is in the gorgeous floral appliqués and embellishments. Rooney is also the first to bring McQueen's Pre-Fall '13 collection to the red carpet. As for the finishing touches, Kate looked to a sleek metallic clutch and Nicholas Kirkwood platform pumps with a little more personality, while Rooney let the gorgeous dress take the focus, also choosing Kirkwood heels, but more pared-down, nude peep-toes. Rooney Mara was joined by her costars Channing Tatum, Jude Law, and Catherine Zeta-Jones for the New York premiere of Side Effects last night. She wore a white Alexander McQueen dress and Nicholas Kirkwood pumps while Catherine donned a black lace Michael Kors frock. Catherine's husband, Michael Douglas, walked her down the red carpet, which included visits from some of New York's fashion elite, like Donna Karan and Rachel Roy. Kate Mara joined her sister, Rooney, at the event after Rooney attended Kate's House of Cards premiere on Wednesday. It's been a busy week for the duo, who have both been doing press for their two new releases. Rooney attended a Side Effects Q&A with director Steven Soderbergh and Jude in the Big Apple earlier this week and Kate made the party rounds for her new series in DC and NYC. House of Cards hits Netflix today while Side Effects will open in theaters on Feb. 8.
