Pattinson and Thurman Get Steamy in the First Bel Ami Photos

Robert Pattinson has been hard at work on Bel Ami while he's taking a Twilight break, and here's the first official still from the film. Clearly there's going to be some sexy stuff going on as Pattinson's character seduces Uma Thurman, but I can't help but think of how this is exactly what Edward would look like in his olden days if he were about to feed on an older woman. Am I right?

I think Robert Pattinson is overated too. He's getting more press than he should. And that Kristen Stewart always looks like she's on drugs. Neither of them are fine actors, no matter what movie they play in. And yes, Uma is too old to have that young boy feeling on her in a movie. If I were an older woman I couldn't do it, not fpr any amount of money. That boy could be her son at that young age.

Isn't Uma Thurman a little TOO old to have young Robert Pattinson feeling all over her old body? A man in his late 20's or in his 30's, yes, but Robert, NO. He was just playing a teenager, and age that he's closer to....not hers.

Their characters in the book don't really have or show real feelings. About all of Rob's relationships in this movie are about him manipulating women to get where he wants. Basically using them to climb the social ladder. He doesn't actually "love" them, he seduces them and screws them over.....by the way, Rob looks amazing in this pic. :D

I don't need to have read the book to think Uma Thurman and Rob Pattinson look weird together (unless you guys mean they closely resemble their characters in the book?)

He's playing George Duroy, I presume. Hee..where's the mustache? ;) I'm going to take a wild guess that Uma is Mme de Marelle...I don't know if she's going to be a good Madeleine Forestier... Anyway..boink boink! LOL. I don't find Pattinson particularly attractive, but damn, he looks fine in this picture.

To #22 - I don't think I would agree that Rob is the most overrated actor . . . EVER. I think I could name a number of other actors far more overrated. I have seen Rob's other movies and I think that he really does have something to offer the acting world (this is actually early on in his career and people are so judgmental these days). It is unfortunate that he is so "blown up" because of the Twilight attention that people expect him to go from one Blockbuster to another or just base his abilities on what he can do in the Twilight movies with kind of a shallow script. The other movies he has done are on a smaller scale (definitely less attention) and have been good indie-type movies. I thought he brought something very understated and real to 'Remember Me' and he was spot-on in 'How To Be'. I think he can do great things with his character in 'Bel Ami' even though the character is amoral and, to be blunt, slime. And, for those that don't get the chemistry thing between Uma and Rob then I think it would make more sense to have read the book (a lot of the book is about manipulation and not actual "real" feelings). In actuality, these characters are probably the least "intimately" involved in the book so I am interested to see if they changed something based on this photo. Perhaps this is the "closest" we will see them in the movie (maybe just a little bit more). He definitely needs to have even more chemistry with Christina Ricci in this movie because their characters are actually more involved. I don't think I have seen anything with her filming this movie so I am not sure what to expect from her.

I can see how this pairing may seem odd to people who have not read the book. So, read the book or keep an open mind and go see the movie. Although it is going to be an R movie, no doubt. I don't know that they can tone it down enough for less than an R because the story is about a young man in 1890's Paris who basically manipulates and seduces women in order to social climb. The story would be lost if they cut stuff out to make it PG-13, that would just be ridiculous. Sorry to those that are younger but I never thought that RP was for young audiences. Playing Edward is not exactly on par with the other things that he has done (and will do), aside from appearing in a Harry Potter movie.

I agree that I don't see any of that love-typical romance chemistry, but their relationship isn't really that typical.....if you've read the book. Anyways, Robert looks very sexy in this still. ;)

I guess I am the only one who feels they have NO chemistry. I guess I'm the only one who feels slightly uncomfortable with this. Not even because of the age difference, they just seem like a.. random pair. No. you are not. I totally agree with both of you. Sorry for my english

You need to read the book to understand how this evolves. Story of a young man in latter 1800's determined to make it big and does it by going through women of influence who obviously would be older than he in order to accomplish his desires. This is going to be an R rated movie you can bank that. I hope this performance will get the critics off his back.
