Another one bites the dust. This week Grey's Anatomy took a break from the typical episode fodder, and instead we are treated to a whodunnit-style murder mystery when one of the doctors loses a patient in the midst of a crisis situation. We hear each doctor's story one by one, and when the cause of death is finally discovered someone is sent home. (Kind of like a combination of House and Survivor).

Ready for my rundown? Just read more.
- The war between Mercy and Seattle Grace continues, as the doctors have trouble working together when a slew of injured patients come in fresh off a hotel fire. Amidst the chaos, a patient who appears to be ready to be discharged ends up dead — and the chief starts a witch hunt to find out who's to blame.
- Both Lexie and newbie Charlie lose their cool this week. Charlie forgets to eat a cookie after giving blood and passes out in the ER, while Lexie can't keep her emotions in check. She gets all choked up when trying to treat a 16-year-old with severe burns all over his body — I don't blame her, but it did seem a bit random to me. Luckily she gets herself back together after a stern pep talk from Arizona.
- Cristina manages to stay out of trouble for the most part, though she does make another kid cry — when she's not sneaking off to Meredith's room to complain about the newbies.
- Alex is in his own world; thanks in part to Izzie's departure. When he finally gets her on the phone, he takes the phone call instead of focusing on his patient, setting off a panic among the other doctors, particularly Reid.
- Though it seems like Reid is totally going to throw Alex under the bus, in the end she's the one who realizes where the doctors went wrong — and turns in her own friend and Mercy colleague.
- In the end, it's April who takes the fall — but does she really deserve to get fired? All the doctors played a small role in the chaos in one way or another, so I think it's a bit unfair that she's fired. Derek even tells the Chief that it's his own fault and that the accidental death is a product of the merger.
So do you think April deserved to get fired? Will the doctors finally start getting along now? Are you missing all the McDreamy and McSteamy screen time? To keep the conversations going, check out the Grey's Anatomy Junkies Group in the Buzz Community!

I liked the different approach to the show this week, but I agree completely with Derek: There are too many doctors and too much chaos. If the writers and producers are realizing that a lot of viewers are annoyed, then hopefully this is a sign that things will be changing at Mercy Grace/Seattle West.
1oooh, yeah! I liked it. It was fun!
2This episode was worth of the great period (aka seasons 1-2). I'm amazed at how well it was conducted and how they used the flashbacks to explain everything bit by bit. It's ironic how an initially chaotic and antagonistic situation (the brawl in the hallway) ends up with a Seattle Grace member (Cristina) standing up for a Mercy newbie (Reid).
Though at first, I didn't like the new arrivals, I kind of changed my mind after seeing everyone interact in this episode. Reid still gets on my nerves, I would have preferred to see her go instead of April, and I don't particularly appreciate "Nose Dive" (although I do sympathize with him, because I fainted so many times after giving blood that the nurses now don't allow me to even get out of my chair and force me to eat while I'm still on it). But "McHandsome" (I don't remember his name, he's just really hot) - the other guy newbie - can stay forever. I don't mind...
As for our Seattle Grace residents and attendings: yes, I miss McSteamy's washboard time and yes, I miss BURKE. Burke was good, Burke was cocky and Burke was good for Cristina. I have the feeling that Hunt prevents Cristina from reaching her full potential, from being extraordinary. With him, she's become... blah.
Meredith was absent, Izzie as well, enjoy your maternity leaves, ladies! Alex was understandably under the weather but he still managed to accomplish a perfect tracheotomy when the Mercy people froze, so there. And Lexie's cute. I can't hate on Lexie. She's Bambi.
Anyway, I hope the writers will keep this up and maybe fire Nose Dive and Reid because I don't care for them. And, am I crazy or something could happen between McHandsome and Cristina?
3I definitely liked the episode, but I do think there are way too many characters now & we are losing the storylines of the main Grey's Doctors.
4Many people feel sympathetic for Lexie crying, and the others don't get it.
They really don't know how a burn-victim can easily reference to the season premiere Did people really forget about George O'Malley already? IF I was Lexie and if I was George's best friend, I would've been bawling.
Im sure if Izzie was there and she HAD to work on the case because b*tchy Arizona forced me to, Izzie would go batsh*t on her. Lol.
5I liked this episode. And I completely agreed with McDreamy at the end. The Chief literally created chaos when he decided to merge the two hospitals. For one, he did it to keep his position as chief; two, I'm even starting to detest him since he made that decision. Three, he definitely keep his hospital at heart when making the merge decision.
I do agree with April getting fired. All of the doctors played a role, yes, BUT it was because April forgot to do the simplest part of the procedure that those doctors were needed. How the hell can you forget to check the throat, even under emergency conditions, when you're a surgeon or doctor? That's your job! Yes, she got distracted but even I (who is so easily distracted under normal conditions) can remember where I left off prior to the distraction, and if I don't, I ask where I was after I go back to the task at hand. She made the hospital liable to a lawsuit for her mistake.
6i feel like they do at least one of these types of episodes a season - but it was pretty good actually. i hope that it's helping them in ratings since i really want to like the show
7It was one of the few episodes I have enjoyed in quite awhile. I hate to say it because I don't miss George, Izzie, Meredith and I didn't even miss Derek. I could do with all of them being gone actually.
8lala you're crazy.... Private Practice recaps!!??
9I really liked this episode! Grey's this season was starting to get annoying, but this definitely refreshing. It's unfortunate that April had to leave, but I mean, it was due to her greed for surgeries that she didn't pay attention. However, I still agree with what Derek told the chief, this merger is just screwing everyone up. I also found Alex a bit annoying. I understand he's going to a rough patch, I mean Izzie left him, but that should remain at home, not take time from your job. And I still can't stand the new doctors, and I hope maybe slowly they'll disappear? Or somehow they can go back to their old hospital? Still, it was definitely a good episode, I liked how it played out.
10Haven't finished watching this episode yet, but it's so tense and exciting! Reid definitely gets on my nerves BIG time. Something about this actress just doesn't agree with me. Her character is smug and irritating. Actually, McHandsome bothers me as well. Yeah, sometimes he's kinda nice, but most of the time, he's just being an *sshole version of Alex. The only one I like is the only one who got kicked out. They better kicked Reid out fast! Stat!
11For the first time in a long while I was actually not bored with this episode. I love the flash backs and multiple perspectives of the situation. I immediately knew April was the one at fault when she asked to look into the woman's mouth but then got distracted. I am not sure she should have lost her job for it because in the end all the doctors were on the case. This episode reminded me of the earlier seasons of Grey's where the writing and storylines were really interesting.
12I think Derek looks and sounds more and more like the chief here.
13So much poise and common sense, rather than the arrogance of the Chief.
I've tried getting into Grey's this season... Really, I have. But I just can't. Is it really surprising that that a "Mercy" doctor got canned & not one of Grey's? In my opinion it would have made for better drama if 1 of the "regulars" had gotten the axe - the others bitterly protesting to their boss about. But no... it had to be someone that viewers don't know.
14-
Oh well, for me (I don't presume to speak for others) it's exactly like ER... I loved it for the 1st s seasons, then got bored with it LONG before it gave up the ghost. Same goes for Grey's. Oh well... I'm sure to get into something else.
i liked the flashback that they did, it made the episode really interesting. Ok my opinion on the whole Reid getting mad because her friend got fired was kind of like "whatever" to me, i mean with this economy she better be glad that it wasnt her. I would be upset too but hey, @ least it wasnt me that lost a job.
15for pianoteacher1 ...did u forget that izzie got fired? this shwo is getting better and changing and u can't deal with it. ( an not attackin lol i'm just saying) u want it same old same old drama boutlove and romance i mean it's bout time everyone settled down and the show starts talking bout career competition and hospital management a bit more i mean this is part of a hospital u know.
16The Chief is definitely on an ego trip and cannot accept his own role in the mass chaos. But I dont think that he truly merged the hospitals --he is only the Chief of Surgery, after all--there are other departments in the hospital in which he plays no role. Yet he has failed to successfully transition his newly expanded position into something positive. Anyone else think that maybe this is a setup for the Board to fire Webber and hire Derek as Chief?
17i really liked this episode. it was different..for once! it makes sense that April got fired, i mean that's what they did to Izzie.
i was SO HAPPY that Derrick stood up to the chief. i'm not a Webber fan this season, so i can kind of see how they might be planning to replace him as cheif w/ Derrick.
18I enjoyed this episode although I wish Reid would have been fired and not April. I actually liked April and Reid drives me nuts.
About half way through the episode I was like, where the hell is everyone?! And then I realized haha
19april deserved to get fired. the patient was hers (but people thought it was alex's - they did have the same initials)... so down with one mercy, let's hope more go (i don't like the new doctors at all!)
20The whole reason for the merger was because the producers want to turn Grey's into another ER. They need new people to keep the show going. What better way to get more people than a merger where you are getting new characters of the same professional experience as our resident interns. Competition creates more story lines. You all have to know that sooner or later, the original characters are all going to leave.
What more can they do about the existing characters? Mer and Der are already married, what more conflict and drama can come from that besides Mer getting preggers and freaking out about it? Izzie and Alex are just in the climax of their story line. Christina fizzled out and I highly suspect that she's going to follow a cardio god to another hospital and off the show. George is off the show and "Izzie" wants more time to work on her movies. They need the new blood.
21It is amazing how mean some of you are to April. I know you might not like the new residents but blaming her is completely wrong. Her mistake could have happened to anyone. It was a stressfull enviroment and none of the doctors (and I think also the nurses even though we don't get to see that) trusted eachother. In that kind of enviroment things like this will happen and you can not blame one individual. I felt so sorry for her when she walked out in shame taking all the blame for the hospitals problems.
Since I think this can happen in America I am glad I live in Sweden. We would not have fired her but we would have blamed the enviroment.
