Recap and Review of Grey's Anatomy Episode "Valentine's Day Massacre"

Grey's Anatomy Recap, "Valentine's Day Massacre"

It's Valentine's Day on Grey's Anatomy, but — surprise! — most of the doctors aren't exactly in the holiday spirit. A big damper is put on the day when a roof collapses on a local restaurant, sending a slew of lovebirds, waiters, and the like into Seattle Grace.

V-day isn't without a bit of magic though. Meredith makes some major strides for Derek, Arizona plays matchmaker for Bailey, and Lexie gets some words of wisdom from an unlikely source. To chat it about it, just read more.

  • Naturally Mere and Der's double date with Cristina and Owen is trounced by trauma, but I would have loved to be a fly on the wall for that night out. I also thought it was sweet that Arizona made sure to have early dinner plans with Callie so they could swap (and show off!) their matching necklaces later.
  • Bailey finally has a love interest! I thought it would take more than just a couple of episodes for her to warm up to the cute anesthesiologist, but by the end of the episode, she agrees to a dinner date. It's about time she got in on all the hooking up that's been happening around the hospital for years.
  • Of course, being Chief isn't all Derek had dreamed (though if doctors looked like Patrick Dempsey in real life I'm not surprised they'd want him on TV). I'm already wondering if there's going to be some kind of division of power once Dr. Webber comes back so that Derek can perform more surgeries.
  • Meredith performs her first duties as "Mrs. Derek Shepherd," including ditching the scrubs for a fancy brunch. I was happy that she complained a little at the end of the episode — she may have grown up for Derek, but this is still dark and twisty Mere we're talking about here.
  • Guess newly blond Lexie's relationship with Karev is going to be more than a one-night stand, but is Sloane going to try to get her back now that he's off the hook for grandpa duties? I kinda hope so — I've warmed up to Karev over the years but his relationships inevitably seem to lead to trouble. Just to complicate things further, I wouldn't mind seeing Lexie hook up with pretty boy Avery (who finally acknowledges his beauty — it's about time!).
  • Teddy's overshare session with Hunt made me cringe a little (waxing isn't a topic I usually breach even with my best of guy friends), but you've gotta feel for her as the odd woman out in their twisted little love triangle. Do you think she really wants to be friends, or is it all a ploy for her to make a move when Hunt and Cristina have their next fight?
  • As much as I would have liked to see Mark and Callie trying to raise a baby together (talk about a 21st century family), how could they possibly have time for a kid? Do you think this is the last we'll see of little Sloan?

What'd you think of the episode? Did the patient love story pull on your heartstrings? Are you looking forward to next week's flashback episode?
