If Matt Damon Makes Another Bourne, He Wants to Do It Right

Matt Damon took the stage at tonight's Critics' Choice to accept the Joel Siegel Award for his work with Water.org. On stage he spoke passionately about the organization, though not without complimenting his one presenter, The Adjustment Bureau costar Emily Blunt and taking a swipe at his other, Jimmy Kimmel. In the press room, Matt continued to talk up the charity so close to his heart, but he also revealed his current feelings on the future of Jason Bourne. As he left the room, a reporter threw out a question about Sunday's New England Patriots playoff game, and Matt responded, "The Pats are gonna crush the Jets!" before heading back into the show. Here's more from the press room:

  • On the possibility of another Bourne: "I really hope it's gonna happen. It's really up to Paul Greengrass, the director. I always said I wouldn't do it without him. I think it would be a bad idea to do it without Paul. He's probably going to do one or two other films that he's got cooking, but then after that. I think enough time has passed that it won't matter if we wait five more years and do it. We just want to make sure that if we do it, we do it right. There's been a lot of pressure for us to do it, obviously, because it's successful. But that's that moment that you have to step back and make sure you make it for the right reasons. When we feel like it's the right time, I think Paul will be open to doing it."
  • On what makes Water.org a compelling cause: For me, it's actually that I see that when these things are implemented, the kind of effect that they have. That's a great story to be able to bring back. That is what gives me an optimism about it. That's what Americans respond to — if you actually can come back with a demonstration that something is working, people will get involved. Hopefully as we get that method down more, we'll get a groundswell of support.
  • On the one role that changed his life: Well, the role that changed things the most was Good Will Hunting, I think for Ben [Affleck] and me. We wrote it and so that obviously had the single biggest impact of any one role.
