Merry Moroccan Christmas, Office fans! I really think this week's episode is totally old-school Office goodness, which is a great way to end the 2008 episodes. Plenty of superuncomfortable, cringe-worthy moments mixed with hilarious things and Jam cuteness and — perhaps my favorite part of all — another Jim prank for Dwight!
What did you think of "Moroccan Christmas"? To chat about the episode, read more.
- Yay! Jim prank! He gift wraps what looks like Dwight's "desk," which Dwight thinks he can unwrap in five minutes because he can "skin a mule deer in less than 10 minutes."
- This is Phyllis's first Christmas party as head of the Party Planning Committee, and her theme is Nights in Morocco. "This isn't your grandmother's Christmas party. Unless, of course, she's from Morocco, in which case it's very accurate."
- Phyllis allows Angela to keep on her desk the camel, sheep, elephant, and the North African king of the Three Kings from her nativity scene, but she sweeps the rest of it into the top drawer. Phyllis doesn't think that lording the power of knowing about Angela's secret affair is blackmail. "I think for it to be blackmail, it would have to be a formal letter."
- The most popular gift for kids this year is the Princess Unicorn doll (yes, she has a website!) — half-girl, half-unicorn. Dwight has bought all of them from nearby stores so that as Christmas approaches he can sell the dolls for a profit to desperate ("lazy") parents.
- He calls the doll "genetically improbable," and of course tries to figure out the science behind how a unicorn princess could even exist. "How does that happen? A king has sex with a unicorn? A man has sex with a royal horse?"
Jim: "Yes." - Michael has created a drink called a One of Everything: equal parts scotch, absinthe, rum, gin, vermouth, triple sec, and two packets of Splenda. He has also mixed vodka with orange juice to make a orangevodjuiceka.
- A man pays Dwight $200 for a Princess Unicorn doll! "Fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-ka-ching."
- Michael says to Kelly that this is what every day would be like if she never left India.
- After she gets seriously drunk, Meridith's hair catches on fire, which leads Michael to hold an intervention for her — and an intervention = a surprise party for people who have addictions. "And you get in their face and scream at them and you make them feel really badly about themselves. And then they stop."
- Also, we now know that Michael celebrates Groundhog Day privately.
- In one monologue, Andy claims his nicknames were "Puke" (because he used to get "wicked hammered" so much), "Ace" (because he never let the drinking get in the way of acing all his courses), and "Buzz" (because he got straight Bs).
- Dwight doesn't believe in interventions. "In the Schrute family we believe in a five-fingered intervention: Awareness, education, control, acceptance, and punching."
- Meredith: "I don't mind telling you that I have an addiction. I do . . . to porn."
- Michael asks what is going to happen when someday Meredith comes into work, and she is dead.
Dwight: "I stab her in the brain with a wooden stick." (This is apparently the most satisfying way to kill a zombie.) - Toby wants to get his kid the unicorn princess. "My ex-wife's gonna be so pissed. And for once Daddy's gonna be a hero." So when Darryl has bought the last doll from Dwight, Toby agrees to pay Darryl $400 for it. He then discovers that the doll is African-American.
- Not gonna lie, watching Michael trying to get a screaming Meredith into rehab seriously stressed me out! It turns out Michael can't commit her to rehab against her will, so he has to find ways to push Meredith to hit rock bottom so that she'll then check herself into rehab. He thinks he can do this because he did it with Jan.
- OMG — Phyllis announces to the room that Angela has been having sex with Dwight! Total awkwardness ensues, followed by a blithely unaware Andy walking in and saying that for the rest of their lives, he will always be there to bring Angela some Christmas cheer. Nobody says anything to him about the announcement.
- Awwww, Andy: "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!" And that . . . is the sound of my heart breaking just a little bit.

ahahaha this episode was hilarious! I swear if Michael Scott were real I'd be related to him. I am that awkward!
1I'm so pissed! I didn't get to see this or 30 rock cause our dumb Blazers were playing and they were showing that. GRRR!
2the episode has to be good when someone's hair catches on fire in the first 10 minutes!! and the zombie thing had me laughing really hard, well that and andy's drinking habits in college "i could do body shots off myself" haha
3Um. To be honest, the awkward and cringe-worthy moments is what makes me not like the office. I had been enjoying it thus far this season, but that episode was over the top. YIKES!
4Haha...true to Office form, the whole room staring at Angela and Andy strolling in the room to face a "tough crowd." AWKWARD! Loved it. I also loved Toby's face when he saw the doll and Darryl's "is something wrong?" and Toby's "it's even better than the one I wanted."
I miss Jim pranks as well, and loved the opening scene. Couldn't stop laughing
5I thought it was a spot on, clever episode, using the entire cast of characters. Everyone had some choice lines. I really enjoyed it! Made me laugh!
Buzz, I love these rundowns...i read them even for the shows I don't catch. Reminds me of high school watching a program and chatting about it with my friends the next day!
6Oh how I miss the Jim pranks.
7My favorite parts were when Phyllis took her job way too seriously. That must be the sweetest revenge. The looks Phyllis was giving when Angela didn't want to obey? Priceless.
8"Buzz, I love these rundowns...i read them even for the shows I don't catch. Reminds me of high school watching a program and chatting about it with my friends the next day!"
I generally do too! Buzz brightens my day!
9Best line: "Tough crowd" - Andy, after everyone KNOWS about Angela's secret and no one responds to his playing.
10I love how smug Dwight was after Phyllis's announcement. "What? Don't look so surprised!" Hilarious.
11Oh man, I was laughing SO hard at the zombie comment!!!
12The zombie comment was funny. It took me a couple seconds - definitely a delayed laugh. I also loved Toby's reaction when he saw the doll that he paid $400 for. I love Toby.
13Super good episode! I think we'll watch it again, for sure.
One thing I couldn't stop thinking about (probably because I'm pregnant and smells bother me SO bad right now), it would have smelled unbelievably bad for a LONG time after Meredith caught her hair on fire. The thought of it makes me dry heave.
14My favorite part was the very beginning when Jim wrapped everything on Dwight's desk.
15Phyllis announcing to everyone that Angela was sleeping with Dwight was pretty much the best thing ever. I can't wait to see how Andy finds out, and if D&A will get back together. Maybe even with a public relationship.
16Phyllis is a beeeeyotch. I guess now she's back to being Angela's minion, rightly so. I feel awful for Andy. I hope Angela tells him the truth, once and for all. Dwight's Princess Unicorn scenes were priceless and especially when Michael sings the theme song.
17Jim's prank was so good!
18Honestly, today at work we were all talking about how much we disliked this episode. It just seemed too over the top and extreme on so many levels. And I know everyone's talking about the zombie, but I didn't find it that funny. I don't know... anyone with me on this?? I just found this episode a disappointment compared to the rest of this season.
19The phyllis intervention is a long time coming... but hello, Michael mixed the drinks and kept giving them to her, so he is partly to blame
hahaha I loved the Dwight stuff with the princess unicorn doll. Too funny!
20popcorn I'm right there with you.
21Favorite part-- Andy singing with the sitar.
22This was a great episode. The cold open was great..I missed jim pranking Dwight! And Princess Unicorn! that whole concept was hilarious! Phyllis announcing Angela and Dwight's affair and dwight's face Ha!...oh and although being one of the deleted scences...Angela and the Christmas tree ..that just looked painful..but it was funny.
23buzz, I always look forward to your recaps!!!
I loved the JAM opening, how Andy's nickname was Puke (I must have laughed for 5 straight minutes), Toby's reaction to the black Princess Unicorn, Michael's drinks, I know Toby's not popular here, but I love his delivery!!
24I'm with you too popcorn. As much as I loved Jim's prank, mean but awesome Phyllis and Michael's comment to Kelly, I thought this ep was a little boring, and slightly over the top.
I felt so bad for Andy, and sad that he didn't hear Phyllis revealing the truth. It's kind of an old storyline though.
The ep did get bonus points for total Jam cuteness:
"I knew it."
25"You didn't know it."
"I knew some of it."
Love the warnings on the Princess Unicorn website, also loved that storyline and Toby getting the black doll and covering up for actually wanting a white one!
Michael & Meredith part was too over the top for me, didn't like it.
26In the testimonials on that Princess Unicorn website it says:
The people from Toys-For-Tots were very excited to get it.
27- Toby F.
PS- Love how you can see the reflection of the camera guy in the Christmas ball in front of Dwight's face in the picture.
28i CAN'T believe there's a website for Princess Unicorn! FANTASTIC! thx, Buzz.
29The awkward, uncomfortable silences are what make The Office brilliantly hilarious for me. Have you ever seen the british original? It was always uncomfortable. Great episode - I love that Princess Unicorn has a website!!
