Enough of you are into slasher flicks that I think you'll appreciate this trailer for the latest installment of A Nightmare on Elm Street. What's different about this one, set to release in 2010? Freddy Krueger is played by the genuinely creepy and genuinely good actor Jackie Earle Haley.
Billed as a re-imagining of the horror classic and produced by Michael Bay, the movie's trailer opens with a sad, evocative image of a younger Freddy being chased into an accident, precipitating his fate as a cold-blooded killer. The fact that the trailer can make you feel empathy for one of pop culture's greatest villains is a feat unto itself and makes me think this movie will be about more than just gory, creative ways to kill someone.
To see the trailer, which also stars Kellan Lutz, Connie Britton, and Melrose Place's Katie Cassidy, just read more.

Super creepy! Jackie Earle Haley is awesome though.
1Kyle Gallner!
2OMG when I was like in elementary school I watched the newest one then, (I'm sixteen now) and it scared the hell out of me. I recently remembered the song and it surprised me that I knew all the words. Hearing it again gives me chills haha. I'll probably end up seeing it maybe on DVD with my friends. I love Kyle Gallner and Katie Cassidy!
3This one looks really good. Hopefully it's better than the original which I've always found to be laughably bad but that's just me.
4this could practically be a sequel to Little Children
5OMG, Why?
6Well here's another reason I stay away from the movie theater anymore. Another ripoff. Oh I'm sorry in Hollywood they call it a remake right? Thats when no one will take the time to produce a decent idea, so they rehash a classic film and load it wit cgi garbage, and flawless 20 year old models. No thanks
7It looks terrible! The sweater reveal scene was cheesy and the accent they gave to Jackie is odd and not in a good way. The trailer was boring not scary in the least. Michael Bay strikes again.
8I take issue with the implication that Robert Englund is NOT a good actor. And the original is a classic. Sure, film had a different asthetic back when it was made, so it appears dated or old-fashioned, but there's no reason to believe that this new version won't appear the same in 25 years.
9i am actually really excited.
10It looks creepier then I would've guessed, I may have to go check it out.
11yes! Kyle Gallner and Thomas Dekker!
12Has Hollywood lost all creativity? originality? If I could get a message through to anyone in the right position it would be this: Please stop remaking old horror films and thinking they're exciting. The generation that grew up on these is in their 20-something (and 30-something) years now and we have more taste than this. Pixar has delivered more decent movies lately...revamp.
13No thanks! Hollywood needs to stop remaking all the good oldies because they're not good at it.
14I actually don't see how that opening can invoke empathy for Freddy, when aside from the sweater, this guy doesn't really seem to BE Freddy. It looks like they've taken some random action-movie scene and jammed it into a horror movie. If nothing else, its annoying because the greatest thing about Freddy was that he's so unapologetic. We never gave him sympathy and he never wanted it--they even played with his "tortured youth" in Freddy's Dead, where he tried to use the audience's sympathy as a ploy to get the upper hand over his daughter. Why work against what he is when it would be more interesting to see what he is -enriched-. Look, I know its supposed to be a "re-imagining" and many of my favorite films are true re-imaginings (i.e. The Thing, The Fly and Little Shop of Horrors). This just.. looks like they're washing away the things that make him distinct...
15I just now saw the original film (I'm 27) and it's almost too dated and campy to be scary. Still a classic, though. Maybe the new one will be scarier. And I don't know who Connie Britton plays in it, but I'm sure she will be great!
