Music Video: Kanye West, "Can't Tell Me Nothing"

File this under one of the most wonderfully weird things I've seen all week. In this new video for Kanye West's "Can't Tell Me Nothing," off the upcoming album Graduation, comedian Zach Galifianakis and singer-songwriter Will Oldham lip-sync Kanye's lyrics while playing ghetto Amish dudes on a farm.

I am a big fan of the insanely prolific Oldham, who records stunning alt-country music under various monikers, including Bonnie "Prince" Billy and Palace Brothers. (Any other Oldham fans out there?) But I never thought I'd ever see Oldham dancing around in red jogging shorts in a Kanye West video while an indie comedian thrusts his hips at a tractor. I would love to know how these three got together. Oh, there's also a Sound of Music-like troupe of dancing girls. You've really gotta see this; you can watch the video online at Kanye's web site.

You said you wanted the story on how Zach and Kanye got together. Well, Zach is friends with Kanye's trainer, and the trainer told Kanye about Zach. So Kanye goes to see one of Zach's shows, and the rest, as they say, is history. Kanye told Zach he would give him free reign to do a video for him. Zach agreed to direct the video as long as he could do it on his Carolina farm because that was where he was on his way to at the time. Hence the tractor and down home good time, clog dancers, etc. Zach of course hopes the video can at least make it on BET. The video is available to watch on the official Kanye site...and so far has gotten everyone talking about the new track, so GREAT marketing move on Kanye's part. And now, you know. I totally agree with pinkflats. i've loved Kanye since day one (especially when he does such amazing things like have Lupe Fiasco record with him) even if he's got an ego the size of Texas, I love him anyways.

Molly I love that music video. so cute. Interesting Kanye's video. I have to say he is one of the most creative, original rappers out there even though he can be sometime full of himslef Or maybe that's part of the appeal. These celebs I can never understand them.
