Movie Preview: Adam

Ever since I heard about Adam, which premiered at Sundance this year, I've been dying to see a preview for it — and now it's finally here! This sweet-looking romance stars Hugh Dancy and Rose Byrne (Damages) as two twentysomethings who live in the same apartment complex. They become interested in each other and might be on the path to love if not for one little thing: Adam (Dancy) suffers from Asperger's syndrome, which means he has trouble navigating dating and other social situations.

I was worried that this movie might be a little too sentimental, but the trailer is charming, with a few moments that made me laugh out loud nestled between the emotional scenes. The reviews out of Sundance were generally positive, with one critic describing it as "extremely touching and sweet."

The movie also stars Peter Gallagher, Amy Irving, and Mark Linn-Baker and will hit theaters July 29. To watch the trailer, read more.

My young son has Aspergers. Adam reminds me so much of him. They just say whatevers on their mind. I took my son to the Dr. The Dr came in and said "HI" and my son said "I think I have gas!!!". Welcome to the world of Aspergers the Dr replied.

Hugh Dancy is a tremendous actor and this movie looks really good. I also think it is good because it will educate people on Aspergers and therefore hopefully encourage more tolerance for people who are different.

awww, this looks so sweet and touching - I love Hugh Dancy and Rose Byrne, and I am so fascinated by autism. I know that sounds wierd, but I work with many autistic kids and the way Hugh is portraying it is quite realistic. I love the part where she has to tell him to hug her - so many of the kids I work with have to be told everything literally; if you do any kind of figure of speech or unclear statement they don't understand. I cannot wait for this...

Ditto to FelicityPorter; this was one of my faves at Sundance. Hugh did a great job of embodying the character without his quirks becoming this cutesy movie contrivance.
