Movie Preview: Sicko

Along with the animated rat chefs and dying ladies with stories to tell this Friday, there is Michael Moore and his latest documentary, Sicko, in wide release. The film explores health insurance in the U.S. and how it compares to that of other countries.

Back at Cannes the film got a ton of attention — and a surprising amount of praise. Assuming that critics and audiences alike had tapped out on Michael Moore, it piqued my curiosity when I saw the reviews roll in calling Sicko an indication of a steadier, wiser and more mature Moore. I have a friend from London who now lives in the Woodlands Texas..and she's a nurse....she told me that Health care here in the US is MUCH MUCH better than in London...her parents still live there and her father had to wait 1 yr and 2 months (in pain and barely able to walk) for knee replacement surgery..then he was shipped out of the hospital after only one nights stay...got a terrible infection, you can't get prescriptions as easy as you can here and after waiting 3 days to see the doctor for the infection, almost lost his leg....

Well you guys might get surprised this time, cause this film is more mature and its actually very damn cruel and realistic.

I HATE Michael Moore. I just can't stand him. He is rude and crude and shows not one ounce of maturity. And he is a whole lot of ounces!

An another note, while the US might not be the richest country in terms of GDP, it probably contains the highest percentage of wealth (e.g., there are many very very wealthy families in the US and they are the richest compared to wealthy families in other countries).

I actually saw this already - it's very interesting and kept my attention. It definitely didn't feel like a two hour movie to me. Yea, Michael Moore's tactics have some questionable angles, but you gotta give the guy credit for trying to wake up Americans and get us talking about these things. I liked the movie very much.

I can't believe Australias 32 on that list! healthCare in australia was good until Howard came into governement. But healthCare in australia is still pretty good. For example it dosen't cost $2,000 for a nights stay at the hospital.

Thanks nikkipez. I was going to guess Japan too, but i would have thought it would be China, a European country and then US...then Japan coming at fourth or fifth.

Michael Moore is on Larry King tomorrow at 9 EDT. CNN just aired a report that confirmed that much (but not all) of what MM says about health care in Cuba is true. Their infant mortality rate is higher than that of the US and their emphasis on preventative medicine limits the length of hospital stays. Cuban citizens do have to bring their own bed linens and towels when hospitalized, but overall, their universal care is working. However, to consider Sicko as a serious documentary would be a big mistake. Moore does manage to get us talking about important issues, though, so I guess he deserves credit for that.

I refuse to give this pulsating sack of fleshy self propagandist any more of my money. He isnt looking for the truth...he is looking for the next story to exploit and eventually profit off of, i dont understand how anyone could take him for a journalist, or even a credible documentary maker.
