If you've read the book The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold, you'll know that it's a heartwrenching, mysterious tale about family, death — and whatever comes after death. Peter Jackson's film adaptation has been a point of discussion ever since it was announced over two years ago, from the casting choices to the question of how to adapt a story like this, which regularly blurs the line between reality and the supernatural. Jackson's 1994 movie Heavenly Creatures does this very thing as well, which made him a good choice for this particular challenge.
The new trailer for the film, which opens Dec. 11, starts out tender and soft before building to a tense and chilling crescendo. Atonement's Saoirse Ronan plays Susie Salmon, a young teen who narrates the story after she's been murdered. She observes her family as they try to piece together what happened to her, and it's all a big tangle of scariness, sadness, and aching sweetness. To watch the trailer, click here.

Peter Jackson is a horrible director (IMO). I am terribly disappointed that he did this movie, because I was really looking forward to it.
i'm totally looking forward to thsi movie. i've gotta re-read it before it comes out.
Couldn't get through the first chapter, this was so sad. Think I'll skip the movie.
The trailer looks great from what I see and makes me want to read the whole book now.
I haven't read the book, but trailer looks great, looking forward to watch it and after that read the book, I'm done with reading before watching the movie... always get disappointed
I'm pretty impressed, I wasn't sure how this would translate into film. Although I still don't agree with Mark Whalberg as the dad, it just doesn't fit.
i read a couple chapters of the book but i don't think i finished it
this would be so sad, i'm sure
I read the amazing book in one day. I was very happy Peter Jackson was taking on the book, and the trailer looks great. Can't wait!!
wow, chills during the entire trailer. I completely disagree with the notion that Peter Jackson is a horrible director. I think this looks like a sad, haunting and beautiful
how do you pronounce this girls name....Saoirse??
anyone know??
Ser-shuh... if that makes any sense?
If they F this up, I will be SO mad!!!
I loved the book when I read it, and I really enjoy Peter Jackson's work. Hopefully the book will translate well on screen.
I read the book for a class and really liked it. The trailer looks good
i actually saw a pretty long trailer for the yesterday and it looks interesting. i didn't realize everyone that was in the cast - so that makes it even more appealing.
I think it looks amazing. I cannot wait. I searched the internet for the past 30 minutes trying to find the song from the trailer. I am totally stoked about this!
Glad they wrote in some extra for Susan to play. hope they don;t adhere to the book that fell apart horribly towards the end
The video is no longer available because of a copyright claim...
You can watch the trailer on the movie's official site. I watched it yesterday--very intense. I'm looking forward to seeing it in theatres.

What a different type of role for Stanley Tucci than what he's been in recently (Julie & Julia, Devil Wears Prada) - he's one of my favorite actors, and it really surprised me/creeped me out to see him as the murderer. The trailer looks promising, but I'm sure the movie will be slightly different than the book, just like it always is.
I read the book last year and thought it to be incredibly good and bad in different ways. The trailer looks really interesting, and doesn't seem to adhere the the book by the letter, which is good. I will definitely be seeing this when it comes out.
It looks great! I can't wait to see it!
Movie looks amazing. Saw the trailer last night, it sticks to the books REALLY well (i.e heaven / the other side) and ahhhh! Can't wait to see it, more hyped about this than new moon.. ;D
I read the book and am very excited to see the movie. I will probably re-read it before December.
i read this book a couple of years ago, and then again a couple of months ago. it wasn't really sad, it was actually nice to think there was a way to connect to people after death and what the possibility of life after death might include.
the trailer looks awesome; can't wait to see this movie.
Oh my God! Peter Jackson is the director of Lovely Bones! I'm so stoked. I've read the book last summer and the first chapter made me cry buckets. Looking at that trailer really brings back all the feelings I felt while reading the book.
But the first part of the book was at it's strongest emotionally, I'm worried because the latter part of the book wasn't that good. But this is Peter Jackson we're talking about, I'm confident that he'll bring in enough new, exciting material to make the second part of the story more enjoyable.
I love Peter Jackson...this movie looks amazing!
Those of you who haven't read the book, do yourself a favor and read it before you see the movie. The book is so great, one of those hard to put down books. My younger sister NEVER reads for fun, but she was bored at work so I convinced her to read this and she loved it.
The movie doesn't look that great compared to the novel, but I'm sure I'll see it anyway. I think Susan will be great as the grandmother. I had a hard time imagining Mark as the dad & Michael Imperioli as the det., but both seem better than expected. But the Indian kid is not at all how I or my sister imagined him! He is way too cute in the movie.
I love the book and was kind of scared when I heard it was going to be a movie, but once I found out Peter Jackson was directing I was happy. I just which Ryan Gosling was playing the father as originally reported and not Mark Walberg.
Love, love, love Peter Jackson. Loved the book too. Can't wait to see this.
looks amazing, can't wait!
Wow, I havent read the book yet, but its on my list! & my bookshelf, I think I'll read it this week..
I was so disturbed by the book, but I will see this movie.
Thanks very much for that imformative piece of text.
Alice by The Cocteau Twins is the song on the trailer, just in case anyone was wondering. One of the best bands ever in my opinion.
Emmebeth...you're saying that Peter Jackson is a "horrible director," but have you seen your avatar for this sight? Pretty sure the director of Twilight can learn a few things from Peter Jackson. IN MY OPINION

The movie murdered the book. The director wanted to make sure that his 13 year old daughter could see it, and in return left out important scenes that the author put in the book for a reason. I was so mad watching the movie it didnt even seem like the director even read the book!
