Movie Preview: My Sister's Keeper

Well, after a bit of casting drama and some commotion over the fact that the film's ending will differ from the book's, we're finally getting a real glimpse of My Sister's Keeper. The story follows a family in which one teenage daughter is very ill while the other one, learning a difficult truth about her birth, tries to become emancipated from her parents. There is, of course, much more going on in this layered, heavy family drama, and from this new trailer it looks like the film captures the intensity of the story quite well.

Only thing is, I was never a supporter of Cameron Diaz playing the role of the mother and I have to say the trailer isn't changing this opinion. I'll try to go in with an open mind when the movie opens June 26, but at the moment I can't shake the thought that this was a dreadful miscast. To check out the trailer for yourself, read more.

I just saw the movie. I didn't read the book and thought Diaz play the part to perfection!

Well, I felt that it was honestly very weird, that Cam was the mother, as the mother potrayed in the book was just a different person than to what Cam looked like. But I'll give it a go. What I can't believe is that they changed the ending to a happier one. She's gonna live, isn't she? AND THAT'S A HUGE MISTAKE. It was how the ending went, which made it so unexpected, so strange, so sad! Everyone expects a happy ending, and if this movie gives in too, then what's the use in a nice storyline, with the same, boring, endings? Sigh, whatever. It still looks good anyway :) I hope it's still touching enough to jerk up a tear, or some sort.

Saw it tonight at a screening. Not a huge fan of Diaz but thought she did well enough. She just didn't look like anyone else in the family, but I wouldn't say the film was miscast.

this is going to be brilliant, im a bit gutted they have changed the ending tho!! give Cameron Diaz break just because all you have seen her in is comedies doesn't mean she can't do well in a more serious role!! and maybe this type of film is perfect and will give her a chance to get more serious roles. why would the producer cast her if she wasn't good enough!! u can't imagine she comes cheap, if they can afford her they can afford any actress, but they picked her that must mean something!!

I just read the book today and seeing the full trailer and watching all the clips I can already say I'm disappointed in not so much the actors but the writing. Many of the lines don't fit the characters.When she walks into Cambell's office she's so bossy. Anna is strong, strong and bossy are not the same thing. The bossiness is almost too immature for Anna. The mother is desperate, not as hostile as she is in all the clips and the trailer. Jesse looks like he is 16 and in the book is a lot older. The one that kills me the most is Brian, the father who when I read about he is as bright as the stars he is talking about. his wisdom in the book makes you fall in love with him. He is never hostile at home or to his wife, even with everything going on. But in the trailer he is talking divorce? I don't know, I will watch it to see what they do.

changing of the ending to My Sisters Keeper is like changing around the Godfather and having Fredo running the Corrloene Family. one less movie i'll be seeing this summer.

I will not see this movie. I read the book, cried from start to finish - one of those books I started in the afternoon and read til 3 in the morning. I don't want to see the movie because I don't think Cameron is right and I don't want to ruin what I've read.Having said that, though, I did get tears watching the trailer and Abigail Breslin looks like she's perfectly cast for this role.

Yeah, Cameron Diaz is wrong for the role. Such a shame. I love the girl from Medium. Getting rid of the Fanning sisters was a good move. Bad move was keeping Diaz.

LolaSvelte--agreed. I thought I was the only person that felt that way about Piccoult's books. I didn't care much for this book, so I probably won't see this movie.

I'll see it 'cause I loved the book. Idk how they'd change the ending, although the book ending demonstrated really bad writing... not a fan of Cameron Diaz but I'll give it a chance.
