According to Ricky Gervais's blog, J.J. Abrams has seen Gervais's movie The Invention of Lying and is raving about it. Whether Gervais is joking or not remains to be seen, but he writes:
J.J. Abrams (Star Trek director) watched The Invention of Lying and said it was one of his favourite films. I know I shouldn't care what people think — some people will like it, some will hate it, and some won't care either way. But the reason I'm so excited in this instance is that I think J.J. is one of the most exciting directors out there at the moment.
Well, that's a nice endorsement. The movie (previously titled This Side of the Truth) certainly does look interesting, and it's chock-full of fun people like Tina Fey, Jennifer Garner, Jonah Hill, Rob Lowe, and more. Of course, Gervais himself is also in the movie, as the central character who lives in a world in which everyone only ever tells the truth — always. The movie shows what happens when lies are introduced to such a world. Naturally, Gervais's character is the inventor of lying.
The movie opens Sept. 25. To check out the trailer, read more.

I luv this; it's so original and funny! I luv Ricky Gervais, Jennifer Garner, and Rob Lowe; although I don't like Tina Fey nor Jonah Hill. I especially luv the song they used; it's the same one from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind which gave me that same good, quirky feeling...
1Love Gervais and Fey. Garner not so much. What to do... what to do... I think my love for Gervais shall win out.
2This looks funny! I'll probably check it out.
3Looks really funny and interesting! I can't wait to see it
4"and it's chock-full of fun people like Tina Fey, Jennifer Garner, Jonah Hill, Rob Lowe, and more"
...since when are Jennifer Garner and Rob Lowe known for being comedic actors?
They have always been dramatic actors (or tried to be) in addition to action roles(Garner).
5Yea, I agree with the two Jennifer Garner comments but I think she could go either way with this role...we have to wait and see (if people decide to see the movie).
I think the issue is that it's as though she is playing down her strengths in favor of this wide-eyed innocent thing. She may be naturally doe eyed but I don't know if it's her strength. She should feel free to be strong.
Some girls have the pixie thing down and it works for them or it's natural to them or it's just another side to their personality that they are sharing on screen. Garner doesn't come across that way to me, like she is more "muscle" and should evolve beyond being a "pixie" or trying to wink, wink (as in wanting everyone to know or think that she is smart and only playing dumb...but who says heorines like these aren't smart?) to the audience.
It just proves to me that her acting is...not there or something is off. I don't think she is fun, a good time girl or a girl friday or the wholesome girl. Not that I think every actress has to be cookie cutter but did anyone tell Garner that?
6Well, it looks like Jennifer Garner is playing vapid. And doing it well.
7thank you for reminding me of the original name. i was trying to figure out when jen filmed this one
8Anonymous #5: What do you mean Jennifer Garner isn't a comedic actress? What about "13 Going on 30," or any of her other romantic comedies, for that matter? I think Garner has an adorable quality that makes me love watching her on screen in almost every role she's played.
9leighgill245 I am totally confused as to what you are trying to say!
10Like most actresses, she plays the best parts that she is offered. I don't think most actors are at a point where they say" I think I'll take this part to play up my "whatever" side! There just aren't enough (good) parts out there for them to be able to be to shape an "image". And yes, I think 13 going on 30 proved that she is an excellent comedic actress. I think she was afraid of being typecast as a strong kick but actress after Alias, so its good to see she is able to do other parts.
I understand Ricky Gervais wrote the part specifically for Jen Garner so it must have known she would be good in the role. I think she is very talented and can do both dramatic and comedic as well as kick-@$$ roles. I can't wait for the film, it seems like a winner.
