Movie Preview: Gerard Butler in Gamer

Labor Day weekend is still technically Summer, and Gamer, set for release September 4 and starring Gerard Butler, looks like a total Summer action flick. Its concept is kind of disturbing — set in the future, people play a video game called "Slayers" where they manipulate real-life prisoners in battle. Of course, the "soldiers," led by Butler, feel like slaves and it's clear that it's only a matter of time before they break out of the game.

It's a relief to see Butler back in action mode, rather than in half-baked rom-coms, but I'm more intrigued by Michael C. Hall as the eccentric billionaire who thought up the "Slayers" game. Check out that Southern-fried accent! Ludacris, Kyra Sedgwick, and Amber Valletta also star.

I would rather Netflix this and pay to see Inglorious Basterds again.

I agree with you, lizlee89 :-) I'm going to see it too. From time to time, after seeing worthy, clever movies with wise messages, I just feel the deep need to see one mindless action flick ;-) I just sit there with lots of popcorn, coke and have total pure mindless fun! And love it!

yeah; it is totally Running Man, Death Race, Blade Runner; hundreds of other movies but I still want to see it because I love well-written action movies with interesting plots; which I think this will be. and how can you not love Gerard Butler's sexy self, along with the uber-talented Michael C. Hall (I love Dexter; so it's wierd for me to see him with that accent but he pulls it off), Ludacris, and Amber Valetta (one of my favorite supermodels; doesn't she look like Natalie Portman, though, in that picture?)...

It looks alright, I'd probably just wait for it to be release on dvd. I agree, it did sort of remind me of Death Race.
