Moneyball Trailer Starring Brad Pitt 2011-06-16 12:23:00

Moneyball Trailer: Brad Pitt Takes Us Out to the Ball Game

Moneyball is one of those movies that has been in the lurch for so long that I was skeptical it would ever see the light of day. That said, after actor swapping, a rewritten script by Aaron Sorkin, and a director switcheroo, the Bennett Miller film is finally slated for a September release — and if the first trailer is any indication, it was worth the wait.

In this adaptation of Michael M. Lewis's nonfiction book, Brad Pitt stars as Billy Beane, the general manger of the Oakland A's. The film explores Beane's tactics to keep his losing team afloat without the huge bank account of some other ball clubs, which means thinking outside the box of buying valuable players to beef up his team. Jonah Hill and Chris Pratt leave their jokes behind to add to the supporting cast as Billy's assistant GM and the A's first baseman, respectively.

The movie is certainly packaged as this year's inspirational sports movie, but we all know that Sorkin is more than capable of raising the bar with a whip-smart script. (Plus, the A's didn't end up winning the World Series, so it won't be totally cookie cutter.) More than anything else, this seems like yet another vehicle for Pitt to show off his range. Check out the preview, and tell me what you think when you read more.
