Jessica Chastain Supports Jake Gyllenhaal's Off-Broadway Debut

Jake Gyllenhaal took the stage in NYC last night for the opening performance of his off-Broadway play, If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet.

Jake Gyllenhaal took the stage in NYC last night for the opening performance of his off-Broadway play, If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet. This isn't Jake's first attempt at theater — he made his stage debut in the 2002 London production of This Is Our Youth.

Jake's been busy in recent days, balancing two opening projects. He sat down with press at TIFF earlier this month to chat up his police drama, End of Watch, which is in theaters today. Jake has a clean-shaven face — and head — in the film. Lately, though, Jake's sporting a self-described "grizzly" look for his stage role. Jessica Chastain and Michael Peña were among the stars on hand last night to support Jake and the rest of the cast. Early reviews have been less than stellar for the show as a whole, but Jake's had some applause for his performance.

He told us he spent five months preparing for the shoot, which lasted less than 22 days in total. He and Michael play LAPD officers in the movie. Jake Gyllenhaal was joined by costars America Ferrera and Michael Pena on the LA set of their cop drama End of Watch yesterday. It was a busy day for Michael, who slipped out of his police uniform and into a suit and continued on to Hollywood's Grauman's Chinese Theater for the premiere of his new comedy, 30 Minutes or Less. This project is America's first return to the big screen since tying the knot with Ryan Piers Williams earlier this Summer. She plays an LAPD officer along with the guys, though America wasn't spotted hitting the streets with Jake and Michael, who trained together prior to production. With the exception of a shirtless Hawaiian getaway, Jake's been keeping his six-pack under wraps since filming began. We'll see a lot more of his toned body starting tomorrow when our annual PopSugar shirtless bracket kicks off — stay tuned for more details and how you can win $1,000 from J.Crew!

Jake Gyllenhaal and his onscreen policing partner, Michael Pena, got into character yesterday on the LA set of their law enforcement drama End of Watch. Jake's enjoyed a pretty relaxing Summer and recently returned from a trip to Hawaii where his dad, Stephen Gyllenhaal, married Kathleen Man in a romantic beachside ceremony. Jake G also hit the waves shirtless showing off the fruits of all his hard workouts, which will also serve him well in our annual beach body bracket that kicks off next week. Michael, on the other hand, has been slammed with projects. His latest movie, 30 Minutes or Less, opens August 12 and last week we saw the first trailer of his Fall comedy with Eddie Murphy and Ben Stiller, Tower Heist. Jake and Michael have already been spotted in uniform on set, and it appears that they're continuing to work on their physiques for the roles. Jake had another running companion earlier this week though, when he went for a jog with his brother-in-law Peter Sarsgaard. Both guys sported '80s style gear for the workout session, which they followed up with lunch near Venice Beach. Jake Gyllenhaal Shaves His Head For Sexy Cop Role!

Jake Gyllenhaal teamed up with Michael Pena yesterday on the LA set of their police drama End of Watch.

Jake Gyllenhaal teamed up with Michael Pena yesterday on the LA set of their police drama End of Watch. The actors modeled official police uniforms, and Jake debuted a freshly shaven face and head. He transformed into a similar look in 2005 for his role as a Marine in Jarhead. Production seems to be in the early phases for Jake, who just wrapped up an extensive promotional tour for Source Code, and Michael, who starred opposite Matthew McConaughey and Ryan Phillippe in The Lincoln Lawyer. Jake should feel comfortable back in the saddle for an action film with Source Code and Prince of Persia already under his belt.
