Colin Egglesfield to Be the "Borrowed" of Something Borrowed

Getting the boot from Melrose Place may just be the best thing that's ever happened to Colin Egglesfield. The guy formerly known as Auggie has just signed on for the buzzed-about adaptation of the chick lit novel Something Borrowed, opposite Ginnifer Goodwin and John Krasinski. Egglesfield will play Dex, the main guy whom the story's lead, Rachel White, carries on an affair with — and he just also happens to be her BFF's fiance.

I'll admit I'm fairly shocked by this casting. Egglesfield didn't seem like the strongest actor on Melrose, and now he's getting thrown into a hefty movie with bigger names. Someone must have had a very good audition, indeed.

If you're a fan of the book, what do you think of this news? Does Egglesfield seem like a good fit?

I am a huge fan of all of emily giffin's books, I bought them the day they came out, and just read the Somethings for the second time. I am NOT please with the actor for Dex! I don't think he's attractive. Interestingly, I agree with Mellybee above who pictured Darcy as a blonde, I always did too! I like the other casts so far, Kate and John for Ethan. I guess we'll see how this plays out!

I'm not sure about him, I think he might do a good job. He looks like the Dex I pictured in the book however I had Matthew Goode in my head the entire time...they should of casted him lol. As for the other cast I think they will work really well. And for some strange reason I always pictured Darcy as a blond even though it said she was brunette lol so I think Kate will play the role well. It also looks like they are giving the character of Ethan a much more prominent role in the movie.

He's definitely a good fit, look wise that is. I've only watched melrose place once so i have no idea how he acts but as soon as i read the cast members i knew he would definitely play Dex he has all the features i pictured dex to have.

I don't think that he's a good Dex. It's going to take a really good actor to pull of the role without making the guy look like a total creep, and, from what I've seen of this guy, I don't know if he'll be able to do it. At least I can see Kate Hudson embodying the role of Darcy, even if she is blond (hopefully they'll have her go dark haired, but I kind of doubt it). This guy, not so much.

hmmm i dont know i just imagined dex looking more all american, less scruffy and more buff and confident... ive never watched melrose place but im starting to get worried. but hearing about kate hudson, i always thought darcy had brown hair?

i'm sorry but he looks like the dex from my head and he is very hot; besides he is a supporting actor not a big role, whoever plays Darcy is what will make or break the movie. i do not like the idea of kate hudson bc she while she is definitely beautiful, she is not a knockout.

i don't know him from melrose because i've never watched it, but he LOOKS like what Dex should look like (although not quite as hot, maybe it's a bad picture) - but to me, the key is he is more UNKNOWN than big name actors and therefore it will be more realistic...i was so worried they would choose someone we know from something else, someone who is typecast already and it would ruin it...i think this unknown guy is good!

ok not to be mean and crude, but who did he sleep with? I don't think his audition got him the part - this guy is a terrible actor and there is no way he got hired for anything other than his "talent." I've never read this book, but I can imagine that the character has to have a good actor behind it lest it become a cheesy caricature of a cheating jerk. but maybe that's what they're going for...
