Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry has long said he wanted to hang around Wisteria Lane till the end of the show's seventh season. But now he seems to want to revise that plan. TV Guide is reporting that at a ceremony today marking the show's 100th episode, Cherry said he'd actually prefer to end the show after nine seasons. Nine seasons!
That would put the show's final episode sometime in 2013. TV Guide says ABC hasn't officially said the show would be allowed to stay on for that long, and it's not yet clear whether the actresses would all be willing to extend their contracts.
If the show does go to nine seasons, that would make this approximately the halfway point. So, do you think the show has another four and a half years worth of scandal? Or would you have tuned out long before then?
Meanwhile, Cherry's quotes from 2007, when he first put the seven-year plan in place, are pretty hilarious. "But I'm serious in my intent to end it after seven years. I don't want to overstay my welcome." Er, not so much?

1for some reason i always thought it was 9 seasons. the show is getting ridiculous but somehow the "mystery" every year keeps me watching. i guess thats what theyre after, huh?
2This seems like a bad choice.
3Why not just see how it goes year by year? This seems odd to me.
4I still like the show, but I can't imagine the actresses would all want to stay on that long.
5Seems like a long time. It's probably better to go out while you're on top. But with some tweaking and revamping, who knows?
6Emmm, not unless it returned to season 1 caliber. By that I mean, all the macabre humor(Brie getting Rex's grave exhumed) and horribly creepy domestic puns. Whenever I think of Martha Hoover saying "mince meat" I still shiver! Now though, it's so slapstick and the "mysteries" are so obvious, I just don't know if I could watch much more. Depends what else is on:)
7i don't know if they could hold our interest for that many more years. how much more could they really do? it's very far fetched right now that the plots would just get to be a bit more out there and less like something that could really be done.
8this has been my favorite from day 1. as long as it stays as good as it is now, i'm in.
9without bringing in new drama to the lane its going to be hard to keep it running for so long.
10I already barely watch it anymore it's imo gotten worse ever year I don't see it lasting that long even if all actresses and network wanted to 2 seasons longer.
11dude, don't overstay your welcome. i consistently watch the show but NINE seasons is too much. way too much.
12I bet he is getting too big for his britches ever since those Nielsen ratings came out. Nine will be way too much. The will go into the future, back in the past and then end in like the year 3000 where all the women are still alive and botoxed to look like marble statues. Stay at seven.
