We've already seen pictures of Jake Gyllenhaal in Man vs. Wild, but this new promo of the season premiere shows just how harsh those conditions really are. A red-faced Gyllenhaal joins Bear Grylls in Iceland, and the adventure looks nothing short of epic. Gyllenhaal faces the cold, eats animals for survival, and tackles a fear of heights — all while cracking jokes. Consider my DVR officially programmed for July 11.
Jake Gyllenhaal is jumping from the silver screen to the small screen for the season premiere of Man vs. Wild, joining Bear Grylls for a two-day adventure in Iceland. These pictures look pretty epic — Gyllenhaal puts his survivor skills to work while hiking amid volcanoes and glaciers. The episode premieres on July 11, and I'll definitely be tuning in to see how Gyllenhaal manages in the wild. In the meantime, check out these sneak-peek pictures.

It's easy being a couch potato. What's not always easy is finding the motivation to get off that couch and trot off to the gym for an intense workout. There are, however, some television shows that will light a fire under your tired tush. Come see which programs will put you in a workout frame of mind.
I'm more of a Survivorman kind of gal myself but can't deny that the other survival dude on the block, Bear Grylls of Man vs. Wild fame, is easy on the eyes (which makes it pretty darn difficult to turn the channel).
It was announced at this year's E3 that Man vs. Wild would be parlayed into a video game this Fall, and the star of the series recently met up with MTV Multiplayer to chat about the game, and even dished out some survival tactics for other gamer scenarios. It doesn't seem that Bear is too familiar with the games in question, but he does give an interesting perspective on gamer survival. What does he recommend for surviving a Super Mario Bros.-type situation? Well, if you're ever surrounded by hungry turtles and only have a mushroom in hand to fight with, Bear recommends using the mushroom as a decoy and running to safety!
Check out what other tips Bear has up his sleeve for games like Doom and Half-Life in the video after the break.
One day over July 4th weekend, I was feeling under the weather and staring listlessly at the TV with my boyfriend when "Man vs. Wild" came on the Discovery channel. My boyfriend wanted to watch an episode and I was feeling too weak to argue. But after just a few minutes, I was hooked and glad I'd started watching the show during a marathon! Now I can't get enough of this adventurous/scary/disgusting and intriguing show, which airs Friday nights at 9:00 PM during its normal season. I've even converted several friends, some of whom have gone so far as to buy flints in case they need, um, a fire, I guess.
The host is Bear Grylls, who is the only human we see throughout the show, so it's a good thing he's a fearless yet boyishly adorable British man formerly a part of the British Special Air Services with a seemingly bottomless knowledge about nature and survival. At the start of every episode he parachutes into a remote part of a jungle/desert/glacier/other unforgiving terrain. His mission? To survive long enough to make his way to some kind of civilization. The fact that he makes it through every mission is cool enough, but there's more to this show that I love, so read more
