Major Netflix Outage Stops Shipment of DVDs

If you've been counting on Netflix to fill a TV void during the Olympics or just pick up this week's new releases, there may be some bad news for you: Netflix is in the middle of its biggest outage ever.

About a third of Netflix's 8.4 million customers are being affected by the outage, according to Reuters. Netflix didn't ship any DVDs on Tuesday, got a few out the door on Wednesday, and hasn't shipped any so far today.

Netflix had a brief outage in March, but this one is being seen as much worse — partly because the company hasn't figured out yet what made the shipping system go down. Officials said they're working "feverishly" to fix it, will offer credits to affected customers, and have e-mailed those who won't be getting their DVDs as scheduled.

I should have had a new movie tuesday :( I still don't have it. Oh well i will survive with the movies i have :)

I am kinda bummed because I plan my Netflix week carefully. I dropped off a movie Saturday and they still haven't sent me one to replace it. I checked my account and they are sending one out tomorrow but it wasn't even my top movie. It was like number 8 or something. I hope they fix it soon.

Fuzzles...Netflix doesn't rent porn...;) Umm...not that I've searched or anything. :innocent: I'd just received my 3 before this happened, and I've been to busy watching the Olympics anyway to watch the dvd's. So I'm not really affected by the issue. I wouldn't really get upset if I was waiting on a dvd anyway.

I can't believe how dependent I have become on my fast netflix turnaround! I have to laugh at myself, I'm like "Where is my copy of Smart People, I sent No Reservations back on FRIDAY!!!" I must learn to relax more. I did appreciate that they emailed me, just so I'm in the loop. I was nervous that my movie had gotten lost or there was a problem with my account. But it seems excessive to get a credit just because I was without a movie for a couple of days. I should be able to entertain myself in some other way.

i sent a movie back and never got the we got it email and was going to let them know but i figured i would give them a few extra days because even though i thought i got it out on friday i was not paying much attention and it could not have gone out till monday. at least now i know that my movie didnt get lost and there is a reason. its no real biggie for me since i dont tend to get to my movies very quickly. i go through spurts and i guess its good this one came at a time im not watching stuff. just to mention it i did blockbuster for a year or so and was really not happy with it i like netflix much better, even with this new problem, which im sure will be resolved shortly.

I received an email about it. I did the Blockbuster for a year or so, but I am so much happier with Netflix. They use a lot more shipping facilities so there is less of a wait time for really popular items.

I received an email from Netflix as well, but I'm going out of town soon, so I guess this is a good time for it to be messed up. I'm sure everything will be back to normal by the time I get back.

It always takes 3 to 4 days to receive movies from them so I hadn't realized the problem but sure enough they are delayed for me too. Guess it will be a week now!

I sent 3 back monday and they still say that they are shipping wednesday. I did get the email about the credits this morning. I am not stressed out about it, I still have some tv shows to catch up on and one netflix movie left to watch. And I picked up some really juicy reads at the library yesterday during my lunch hour.

I agree that it's not something to get super stressed about, but they're not delivering the service as promised so they should make it right. I plan my queue so that my husband and I can have movie nights on the weekend and so I'll have something to do the rest of the time while he is studying for a huge test. I can go get one at RedBox if I need it that badly, but it is a little annoying to spend on RB when I am already paying Netflix. I was glad they put the little alert at the top of the screen today when I logged in because I was starting to worry about stuff I sent. I dropped off 2 movies on Sunday at the post office and one registered as recieved on Wednesday. When the other never registered I reported it missing, but that was before all this came out. My queue still says I have one shipping Wed (yesterday) so we'll see if I get it I guess.

I hadn't even noticed they were slow. I don't pay much attention to how long it takes to get a movie, I just know how excited I get when I see the little red envelope. LOL So, waiting just means more anticipation.

I got a disk from Netflix yesterday. I haven't been paying attention to Netflix because of the Olympics so I'm not sure when I sent my last one in. I still have a disk that they sent me last week, waiting to be watched, so I doubt the outage will affect me.

I sent my DVDs back on Monday and received an email this morning about the outage. Last night I was even wondering aloud where my DVDs were - usually they're pretty quick. I'm a little bummed. I've been watching Six Feet Under for the first time, and I'm totally hooked! I need my fix! At least Netflix sent out the email and is going to credit me back. That's pretty awesome. I wonder how long this is going to be a problem?

you know, i just sent back a few DVDs and wondered about that one since they are usually so great about sending them back out to me - but i figured that i'd get them today or tomorrow. i'm sure they will fix it ASAP. it's funny that people freak out about this so much - what's the point in requesting a credit for 2 days of not having a movie? seriously?

Just got an email from Netflix. I mailed back one on Monday, they received it Wednesday (usually it's a one-day turnaround), and still haven't shipped anything out. Returned another one yesterday and still no receipt. Oh well. Guess I'll have to hit the library for DVDs for the weekend!
