MTV Launches a Website For Music Videos

The TV network that started out showing music videos all the time — the "music" part of "Music TV" — is now putting them on the ol' the Internet at MTVmusic.com. It's a pretty cool idea, actually, since a lot of people only watch music videos online anyway these days. Plus, the site has a bunch of "vintage videos" from the early MTV days, like the first music video they played, "Video Killed the Radio Star."

I picked out a few of my own personal favorites from back in the day (like "Motownphilly"!) after the jump so to check them out and tell me about your faves, read more.

While the idea of a website for videos is dumb when there is 3 MTV's and not one of them plays actual videos anymore. Well 2 does and 3 is in Spanish, so whatever. Anything Madonna or Janet was a must back in the day. Black or White by MJ too!

this is a stupid idea. for one, it shouldn't have to come to making a damn WEBSITE to play videos when the network itself is SUPPOSE to play videos. and second, what's the point...youtube buddy...you...tube.

Papa don't preach was also a favourite of mine and I remember Runaway Train by Soul Asylum made an impression on me. I loved the clips and even recorded them and watched the same one over and over again. Now I can't remember the last time I saw one!

and just think when they first brought out tv , one man in a newspaper was quoted saying it will not last.That it requires people to sit and stay to watch, and no one would want to do that.we proved him wrong (=as for Mtv, here if you watch between shows like an ad you see music

Yay I'm so glad that they made this! I really like Madonna's videos, especially "Papa don't Preach" and "Like a Prayer." There are way too many music videos that I love, so I can't really name them all.

This is fine and dandy, but aren't there already sites like Yahoo Music that have huge databases of music videos available for anyone to watch? Anyway, in the days when I actually wanted my MTV, the ones that stand out in my memory were Beastie Boys' "Sabotage," Radiohead's "Fake Plastic Trees," Bjork's "Army of Me" (when I first saw it it scared the bejesus out of me! Also probably the first time I was ever exposed to the strange visual work of Michel Gondry), Foo Fighters' "Everlong" (best song ever!), and PJ Harvey's "Down By the Water." These days I don't even pay attention to music videos, but 10-15 years ago they were like crack to me. Another good thing lost to the internet age.

i hate how for copy right reasons they cant show the videos outside the U.S. so annoying

I rather watch things on television actually, even though sitting through watching a video online is easier than with a show or movie.

MTV has THE most misleading name. I honestly cannot recall the last time I saw them show a video. And the 1/4 snippets on TRL do not count.

i guess they had to do something seeing as how they rarely show any music videos on air. i think that it's nice that they are putting their archive online.

It's cool that have the old videos, but it still makes me giggle that they had to launch a new site for videos since, you know, that's sort of what they're supposed to be about.
