Are You Satisfied With the Lost Series Finale?

Well, Lost has finally come to an end for all you lucky East Coasters, and I'm sure you're all dying to start discussing it. Considering how big of an event this is (six years in the making!) I don't want to spoil a drop of it for those of you who haven't seen it yet. So stay tuned for my recap, but in the meantime, I'm gonna open up the forum for dishing by asking the simplest of questions — are you satisfied with the Lost series finale?

Cop out. They didn't have answers. Like a weekend dad making promises to his kids that he can't make good on, the writers were 100% irresponsible to their audience. Also, they've been saying for years that the answers were coming. Check out my Facebook group: "LOST Finale Was Worst in TV History"
I just wanted more answers- great show- great finale- but it would be nice if the season DVD answered the questions that we all seem to have
The Finale disgusted me. The show had been getting lamer and lame for the last 3 years but I kept watching because I wanted the answers that were promised. The first season of LOST was so compelling..... This finale was a total cop-out. Its like they stopped in the middle of a book and said "superman swoops in and saves the day and everyone dies. The End" For the last 3 years literally every single promo for every single episode promised answers, and instead we get this. Its an insult and a slap in the face to any and all who kept the faith.I can't even watch the good episodes anymore.......... LOST seems so empty and worthless now. This was wrong, I don't care how artsy and emotional the finale was............ LOST is half a story and I hope the media lets it go quickly so I can forget about it. What a failure!

My biggest disappointment was Kate and Sawyer didn't end up together!!!!
Gimme a break! Bobby dreams a whole season away in "Dallas". Sam dreams a whole season away on a mission to Mars. And now I've got to swallow that I've been watching a show for six years where everyone was already dead. What a copout. Whose dream was this? So what happened to the miracle plane that left the island apparently in one piece with a number of cast-aways onboard? What happened to Rose and her husband who were left in the jungle unscathed by the evil Locke? What happened to Hurley & Ben who assumed the role of watching over the island? Whaddya' mean "Jack has no son?" And finally, was there ever an electromagnetic powerhouse of an island in the first place or did the plane simply crash? How about "the plane doesn't crash and the sideways scenarios become the new reality"? The end.
The flash sideways line was the worst thing to happen to the show until this failed finale. They should have taken some hints from X Files, which was so brilliantly written in its peak years that even if you only watched ONE episode you were still very entertained and understood it. This was like a 150 minute Target ad, with ad breaks every ten minutes, and 40 minutes of the actual show being the triggered sideways memory flashbacks we have all seen a hundred previous times. There was about 1 hour to 75 minutes of actual relevant material. Some of my biggest disappointments were: if they were moving on, obviously Ben didn't. And more important what happened to Desmond and Penny on the ISLAND timelime? Desmond was stuck on the island again with Jacob wannabe Hurley and Ben? It would have been more satisfying to have the monster behind Locke (who honestly was not entirely unsympathetic) escape the island but in the form of the defects in all the characters. He would no longer be super-powerful, but dispersed into small facets of evil that exist in all people. So the island could be at peace again, the monster would get its release and be at peace as well, and it would be up to those who experienced the evil first hand to contain and subdue its memory in their lives off the island. Man I should write this stuff.

Anonymous - I LOVE THAT THEORY. It makes so much sense, too, seeing as how Hurley got to make the new rules as the protector of the island. That's why they kept saying "I can't tell you why you're here" "That's against the rules"...well done. *high fives*
what the island and the light are was never explicitly spelled out but i think that was (somewhat) on purpose - so that it could be interpreted different ways by different people. for me, as someone non-religious, i like to think that the light of the island is the good within all people, for someone who believes in souls, it could be the source of that, etc. overall i liked the finale. my favorite theory is that the sideways world is hurley's last gift to his friends, his way of "taking care of them", through creating a place that they could all be together and happy. the people in the church were the people who were ready to move on - while some had had "bad" or "good" lives, they had done what they needed to in the sideways world to have peace/clarity/whatever if they weren't able to do that in their real lives (for example, jack was able to be a father and work out his own father issues; charlie had been able to have what he wanted in real life - family and love, so his sideways world wasn't as important; ben wasn't ready to move on because he was just starting to get to know his daughter). yay lost!

they shouldnt have made all the other puzzling stuff up if they wernt going to answer it! and those who say it doesnt matter arent being truthful because it wasnt the jack, kate sawyer love triangle which kept us watching, it was the numbers, the cabin, the smoke, the hatch....no one tuned in five seasons ago for the "love" of it all, and while i think the ending was so important in showing how those people progressed to love each other, it should have equally answered the questions of why they all came together, lived together and died together in the first place! i felt a bit sad when I see them all dead because after six years of them getting chased and shot, it felt like they died for nothing, and if they died to save SOMETHING (eg the light of the world) the writers never made it clear enough how important that was and what the real effects would have been if theyd all decided to call it quits and never go back to the island.

I loved all of it until the last 1/2 hour. The sideways being a spiritual world with Christian and moving on and finding the light...it was all just so "meh" it was boring and predictable - all things that Lost isnt!I feel like the ending had NOTHING to do with the other 5.5 seasons, like it could have been tacked on to any other season - had they all just heroically died (redeemed) on the island when Jack turned the light back on I would have been more satisfied. Like why do Kate, Sawyer, Claire leave? And I am so PISSED at the Walt thing, I really had a lot invested in that story I feel like they tricked me and then ignored me. And they made such a big deal about the light going off and it being the end of the world, yet it went off and all it was was an earthquake with the island about to sink and like a switch it was turned back on. Desmond wasn't so special since Jack handled the light too...so that whole story was pretty pointless. Yes he saved the island, but who gives a flying fire truck? The island didn't matter, or at least no one told us why the island was so important.The finale was great if it there were 2 more episodes coming with explanations and that final waiting room scene was eliminated, otherwise it was a weird ending that had no basis in any part of the last 5 seasons. Ugh, I'm really sad it's over and it didn't end on a high note, that said, still love the show.

All the good storylines and plots, and THAT'S how they chose to end it??! They could've done so much more with it... but I guess they thought since it was ending, they didn't care too much.

For Anon 44, wasn't Ben a murderer? Even Sayeed? Yet we saw them in the sideways world and not Michael...Plus, why did Mr. Ecko not come back??

I read this on another blog, but it summed it up really nicely:If you are a Man of Science, you were disappointed by this finale because it didn't answer your questions......but if you were a Man of Faith, you appreciated that it came back to what the show is all about; the characters, the unanswered questions, and mystery.

I'm also just really sad that my favorite tv show from the last six years is over :( I didn't realize I could get so attached to a tv program.

After thinking about it, I don't like how the last season developed with the whole flash sideways/purgatory storyline. I just don't think it was necessary. I didn't dislike the finale, but I wish they would have just focused more on resolving the original story instead of introducing the whole afterlife theme.
EJO: Lost wasnt about being on the island... it was about the people on the island. Before ABC ever picked up the show, the writers already knew the ending... I agree- we dont know why Walt was special... we dont know why Claire had to raise Aaron... we dont know what the light was... but all in all that writing is unbelievable. My sister is a screenwriter and she knows how difficult it is to write an amazing screenplay... however in my opinion they pulled it off.
My only complaint: they never exactly explained what the light was...
The finale was touchy, yes, and they wrung out our tears quite expertly indeed, but as someone has already said, it was NOT good and definitely NOT what we deserved. We were played, duped, manipulated, and I just hope writers and producers out there don't start grabbing this twisted lost formula of ending every episode with a hook that you will NEVER answer. The numbers, Whitmore, the virus, the time travel, why Aaron was able to born in the island and not other babies, Walt, we will NEVER KNOW because clearly the producers and writers did not know either. If it would have been as ''good'' as they claimed it was, they would have given us the answers rather than killed them all off and expect us to go, "Oh, well, ultimately nothing matters. We all die." WTF!
