Identity Thief Trailer: Melissa McCarthy Steals Jason Bateman's Life

Melissa McCarthy: villain? It may sound unlikely, but the explosive trailer for Identity Thief has the comedienne stealing the identity of regular guy Sandy (Jason Bateman) and using his credit to finance her shopping sprees. When Sandy gets notice of court dates he's been missing across the country, he finally realizes why his credit cards are maxed out. He goes to Florida in search of the "hobbit" (Sandy's words, not mine) who's been using his name, but he doesn't quite anticipate getting throat-punched by Diana (McCarthy). His quest for justice soon turns into a dangerous game, complete with car chases and explosions.

I like Bateman, but he always seems to be embodying the same witty and slightly caustic guy. It's no surprise that his character is reminiscent of the one he played in last year's Horrible Bosses, seeing as Identity Thief is also from director Seth Gordon. On the other hand, this is definitely McCarthy like I've never seen her before. Even though she's the antagonist, she has just the right amount of off-the-wall charm to get me to root for her. It even looks like Sandy likes her by the end of the trailer. Identity Thief comes out on Feb. 8, but you can watch the trailer after the jump.

Jennifer Aniston joined actors Jack Black, Michael Douglas, Jon Favreau, and more at the American Cinematheque Awards in LA last night to honor her friend and fellow thespian Robert Downey Jr. Jennifer took the stage in a sexy, form-fitting gown to say a few kind words about her long-time friend RDJ. Jennifer joked, "[Robert] never let his career get in the way of his commitment to hard-core, classic Grade A drugs." Justin Theroux, who dined next to Jen at the event, also shares a connection to Robert, having penned the scripts for Tropic Thunder and Iron Man 2. Robert stopped by Jen and Justin's table to pose for a photo, but RDJ also stuck beside his wife and mom-to-be, Susan Downey. It's been an exciting week for Robert. In addition to last night's party, the first trailer for The Avengers was released.

Jon Favreau Brings Explosive Cowboys & Aliens Footage to WonderCon, Talks Up Its "Two Generations of Action Stars"

WonderCon is in full effect here in San Francisco, and today I checked out another panel for an upcoming movie: Cowboys & Aliens.

WonderCon is in full effect here in San Francisco, and today I checked out another panel for an upcoming movie: Cowboys & Aliens. The actors in the film, Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, and Olivia Wilde, weren't able to attend, but directer Jon Favreau and producer Roberto Orci gave the crowd a lot to be excited about. They spilled details about the Western-meets-alien-invasion action flick, and showed the audience several minutes of footage, which definitely improved upon the teaser we saw a few months ago. Check out the most scintillating bits from the panel below.

  • Favreau kicked off the panel by saying how grateful he was for events like Comic-Con and WonderCon. Because of the support of the fans, he says that the conventions remain a priority, and that he is "very grateful for what you guys have done for my career."
  • Favreau complimented star Daniel Craig, calling him an "awesome, professional, great dude." Craig was ideal for the movie because Favreau admired his work in Layer Cake and the Bond films, saying that he's "sort of a vulnerable but really badass hero."
  • As for the film's other huge star, Harrison Ford, Orci admitted that they never thought he would agree to the film. The victory in getting Ford, Favreau said, is that he is "bringing this entire history" to the movie, and alongside Craig, they have "two generations of action stars."
  • Favreau is excited about the mashup of the Western genre with the aliens, noting that "the fun isn't in making fun of the fact that they're in a Western," but that the fun is in the alien presence "blowing their minds."
  • Although Favreau frequently cameos in the movies he directs, he doesn't appear in Cowboys & Aliens. The funny reason for it, he said, is because Family Guy's Seth MacFarlane made fun of him for wanting to!

Cowboys & Aliens Trailer: Daniel Craig Fights the Law, E.T.

You pretty much know what you're going to get when a movie has an obvious title like Cowboys & Aliens, but in case there was any confusion, the film really is all about cowboys and aliens.

You pretty much know what you're going to get when a movie has an obvious title like Cowboys & Aliens, but in case there was any confusion, the film really is all about cowboys and aliens. Working off the graphic novel of the same title, Jon Favreau's new project creates a hybrid out of western and sci-fi, which feels like a strange (albeit innovative) pairing.

Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, and Olivia Wilde star as early Arizona settlers who are forced to ward off extraterrestrials when a UFO invades their town. The trailer doesn't reveal too much about the characters, but there's something fishy going on with Craig and that Iron Man-like gadget he wears. While I'm a big Favreau fan, this blend of genres definitely takes some getting used to — and I've already watched the trailer six times. The film doesn't come to theaters until July 29, but give it a look and share your thoughts when you read more

Jon Favreau Brings the Magic Kingdom to Life

Why haven't they thought of this before?

Why haven't they thought of this before? Disney is reportedly developing a new film chronicling what happens at the Magic Kingdom after hours as the attractions come to life (think Night at the Museum, but with Mickey). While the premise sounds geared to the kiddie crowd, there's one element that should keep adults interested, too: Jon Favreau. The Elf and Iron Man director is in talks to helm the movie, which should make Magic Kingdom fun to watch (and hopefully more than just one large advertisement for the theme park).

Gwyneth and Scarlett Are White Hot With RDJ For Iron Man 2 LA Premiere!

The dueling leading ladies of Iron Man 2, Gwyneth Paltrow and Scarlett Johansson, were once again in similar hues for last night's world premiere.

The dueling leading ladies of Iron Man 2, Gwyneth Paltrow and Scarlett Johansson, were once again in similar hues for last night's world premiere. On Friday the women were both in shades of gray for the photo call, the first of the weekend-long series of events moved from London to LA last week. Robert Downey Jr. planted a kiss on Gwyneth, who was all legs in her shorts tuxedo with her trademark center part in that perfect blond hair. Scarlett was beautiful herself, brightening up the evening even without her super hot husband there to help her debut the first of this Summer's 10 most anticipated blockbusters!

Of course, the men of the film were nothing to scoff at, all suited up! RDJ had his real life favorite lady, wife Susan, for most of the red carpet poses. Mickey Rourke displayed his usual quirky fashion sense, and director Jon Favreau got ready to show off his sequel as fans are already looking towards number three. Don Cheadle went his own direction with a hat while Adrien Brody was just along for fun. The first Iron Man was a critical and box office success, and there are only a few weeks before its May 7 release we get to see if the second one can live up to the same standard!

Scarlett and Gwyneth Both Pick Gray For First Iron Man 2 Event!

The cast of Iron Man 2 stepped out in LA earlier today for a photo call ahead of this weekend's press junket and Monday's premiere, all of which was moved from London due to the volcanic ash situation.

The cast of Iron Man 2 stepped out in LA earlier today for a photo call ahead of this weekend's press junket and Monday's premiere, all of which was moved from London due to the volcanic ash situation. Scarlett Johansson and Gwyneth Paltrow both looked gorgeous in gray sheath dresses — just the first of many red carpets the two will be walking together. Jon Favreau, Mickey Rourke, and Robert Downey Jr. all looked dapper in their assorted suits. Gwyneth is used to being a girl in the boys club, but this time there's lots of attention on Scarlett and her skintight costumes for the film. Domestic goddess Scarlett talked about the look, saying, "I don't think I've ever worn anything like it before. I mean, it's a unitard . . . a sexy unitard." The Summer blockbuster comes out on May 7, so expect a busy two weeks of promotion from the all-star cast and lots of great fashion, especially from the two leading ladies!

Jennifer Garner's Big Birthday Weekend With Friends, Kids, Pedicures, and Parties!

Jennifer Garner turned 38 on Saturday, which she celebrated with a weekend full of friends and family.

Jennifer Garner turned 38 on Saturday, which she celebrated with a weekend full of friends and family. On Friday, she and Violet got pedicures together at a nail salon in Pacific Palisades. Jennifer made sure that Violet didn't mess up her pretty toes by carrying her out to the car afterwards. That evening, Ben Affleck was on his own at the Children Mending Hearts Peace Please Gala in Hollywood. It wasn't too late of a night, however, since there was a big daytime bash to throw the next day.

Among the three big celebrity birthdays this weekend, the vast majority of you picked Jennifer's party as the one you'd most like to attend, and it ended up being quite the event! Reese Witherspoon started out her Saturday stopping by a sporting goods store with Jim Toth, Ava, and Deacon before the foursome all headed to the Garner-Affleck celebration. She was just one of the A-list attendees, joining Jason Bateman, Tobey Maguire, Jennifer Meyer, and more at Jen and Ben's home. The sunny, beautiful afternoon was kid-friendly of course with Seraphina and Violet also playing host to all their famous pals.
