Joanna Garcia Tapped For New Comedy Project From Friends Creator Shana Goldberg-Meehan

Joanna Garcia Takes On a Sisterly Role

It's no secret that I loved the short-lived CW comedy Privileged — mainly thanks to its very likable star, Joanna Garcia. Since that show got the ax, I've been waiting to see where Garcia might pop up next (other than her Gossip Girl guest arc, of course). But good news! We may soon see her on ABC.

Garcia has been picked for a new comedy from Shana Goldberg-Meehan (one of the writers of Friends). Just to hear that Meehan is developing another comedy gets me giddy — even though the premise itself has me mixed. The show centers on two sisters: one who is in a long-term relationship but isn't married, and one (Garcia) who accidentally becomes pregnant so she ties the knot.

This could go one of two ways: the way of totally formulaic female stereotypes or — touching on what made Friends so great — a sweet sister relationship with funny everyday premises for laughs. Let's just hope it has more staying power than say, The Return of Jezebel James, because it'd be nice to see such a woman-centric comedy on TV.

Do you think this new series sounds promising?
