It's a major year for Jessica Biel. Not only does the actress take on one of her most physically demanding roles in the upcoming Total Recall, but she's also prepping to wed her longtime love, Justin Timberlake. We caught up with Jessica at a recent press day for her new film, where she said she's giving herself a bit of breathing room to explore what she's really "excited and inspired" by post-movie and pre-wedding. She also talked about how her latest leading man, Colin Farrell, stacks up to her former costars and which future roles are still on her acting wish list. Total Recall is in theaters Friday.
I'm actually taking a moment to really think about what I'm excited and inspired to be doing. He's one of my favorites. He was so fun. So you go head to head with Kate quite a bit in this movie and she is really, really familiar with the action genre. Were you intimidated at all before battling her on screen? Yeah, I think it's always kind of nerve wracking when you're coming up against someone who is such an expert and has done so many films where she portrays these kick-ass characters. So yeah, I was a little bit nervous, but I was really prepared and I rehearsed a lot and I felt like I could handle my own. So it was all good. It was cool seeing all the behind the scenes footage they were showing Yeah. because the sets were so built, like there was obviously some computer graphics going on but you guys were really working on real sets for a lot of it. it seems like. No, we absolutely worried. Our production design team created such incredibly elaborate, practical sets that we were there. In our minds, in my mind, I was there. And I was just transported to another time, 2084. Another world and it helps exponentially when you have that. When you are shooting something like this. Yeah, and Colin Farrell leading man in this movie. You know you've worked with a lot of great actors over time, how did he stack up? He's one of my favorites, he was so fun, and we had such a hard long sort of shooting experience. Right. And, we were literally everyday, all day long, like stuck in an elevator shaft. and jumping off this thing, and he was so cool and supportive as an actor and as a co-worker, and someone who was very collaborative and just fun so you could have a good time not, you wouldn't have to be so serious all the time. Right. So it was a good experience. Now his character in the movie is kind of given this laundry list of options of memories or experiences he can have implanted into his brain. If it were safe because in the movie, it doesn't seem so safe. Right. What would you choose? I can never pick. Right. I feel there's so many things that I would love to experience. But I think I'm sort of going with this space idea: astronauts, space invader some kind of I don't know I'm usually not into that kind of thing. All right. But I think I could be really cool. Yeah and then you don't actually have to risk your life to experience it, right? Yeah, yeah. Exactly. Now you've been working crazy nonstop over the past few years. You've done some really great roles. But now withmovie under your belt, and a wedding ahead, are you looking forward to taking some time off, or are you already on to the next thing? No, I'm actually you know taking a moment to really think about what I'm excited and inspired to be doing Right. I really don't want to just do something because I feel obligated. So I'm just taking a breath to find something really inspiring and challenging. Yeah. I just like to keep doing diverse things and sometimes you have to say no to a couple of things before you find that thing that I can't not to this. Yeah. Is there anything specific on your wish list? I think my wish list probably consists of some kind of cool broad comedy like - I want to do something like a Death Becomes Her. Yes, we need a new one of those. Don't you think? like that would be really cool. I also love a romantic, I guess you would call it like action movie, but like romancing the Stone? Yeah. Just something like that. Something fun, but also an adventure. And then I'd love to do something period, like I was watching Elizabeth the Golden Age. Amazing movie. Amazing movie. Something in a period like that would be incredible. Some strong, empowered woman I'm like that was a bagel.
