Will Jay Leno Succeed at 10 p.m.?

Every time I look at NBC's Fall schedule, I'm struck by one thing: so much Jay Leno! With his own show five nights a week, he'll be taking up a huge portion of the primetime hours. While NBC believes they've cracked the code to successful programming, other networks are seeing this as an opportunity to gain ground — including CBS, which recently launched "Project L.E.N.O.," a cleverly named effort to help promote the network's 10 p.m. programming.

Though we've only seen a few short tastes of what Jay's new show might be like, I'm wondering: Who do you think is right? Will Jay be a wild success at 10 p.m.? Or will the other networks smash his ratings?

Giving Jay Leno a show at 10:00 p.m. was Jeff Zucker's last ditch effort to keep Leno from defecting to ABC and directly competing with that lame Conan O'Brien. Leno, who's loyal to a fault where NBC is concerned, needs to keep his options open with ABC. If Zucker's 10:00 p.m. booby prize doesn't work out, Leno needs to be released from his contract so he can get on with his career at another network. I still cannot fathom why Jay Leno allowed himself to be talked into giving up his successful run on The Tonight Show. Note to Jeff Zucker, et al: Conan sucks!

They're moving a lot of great shows for this, I think he'll fail.

Personally I think NBC was stupid to do this because they got rid of so many other shows in order to make way for Jay Leno all week. Why leave The Tonight Show in the first place? Personally, I'm a CBS/David Letterman kind of girl, but I would be saying the same thing if CBS had done the same thing!

I like Leno. I have little time for tv these days, but who knows, maybe I'll catch it.

I usually don't wish for a show to fail. If I don't like it, I just won't watch. But I sincerely hope he fails.

I was never Leno fan so I just don't get why they'd put him on at 10. I do know, however, that there are plenty of people who liked his run on the Tonight show so many of them may follow him here. I still don't think it will be a huge success but when you're already in last place who cares I guess

I'm a huge fan of Jay Leno, so I just hope this new show does well for his sake. However, I do agree with lilkimbo, it just has to do well enough, not a complete ratings hit.

And in that account, I think they're correct. Leno doesn't necessarily need to beat other networks in the ratings in order for his show to make sense monetarily, he just needs to do respectably.

If he does, it certainly won't be as a result of myself or my friends. His immature 14-year-old sense of humor is not my cup of tea.

I was always under the impression that NBC doesn't necessarily think Leno will beat other networks in prime time, but rather that they think they'll get the most "bang for their buck," since Leno's show is relatively cheap to produce, even taking into account Leno's large salary.
