Joaquin Phoenix Goes Full '70s in the Surprisingly Funny Trailer For Inherent Vice

Paul Thomas Anderson's latest film, Inherent Vice, is coming up fast, with new pictures coming out recently and now, the very first trailer. Joaquin Phoenix plays a burned-out private detective investigating the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend (Katherine Waterston) in the midst of a sea of crazy characters, including those played by Reese Witherspoon, Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Benicio Del Toro, and Jena Malone. This is a really appealing trailer; the music is funky and the story looks like Anderson's funniest material ever. The Thomas Pynchon adaptation is one of several books hitting the big screen this Fall, and fans of Anderson should note that this looks less like The Master and more like Boogie Nights. Check it out, and stay tuned until the movie is released on Dec. 12.
