Move over, Pattinson. There are some new vampire boys on the block, and their names are Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley. The two actors have been cast as leads in the CW's Vampire Diaries pilot, alongside Degrassi: The Next Generation's Nina Dobrev.
Somerhalder (at left) will play Damon, "a smug vampire who can go from playful to evil in a split second." Meanwhile, Wesley (at right) has been cast as Stefan, a "gloriously, amazingly, epically beautiful young man." Both are actually 200+-year-old vampires (apparently Damon's technically older, but once you're measuring in centuries, does it really matter?), and both are objects of affection for Dobrev's Elena.
Judging by looks alone, I think they could have switched the casting of the brothers — though Somerhalder does seem like he could pull off "smug" without much trouble. Besides, there's much more to playing a young vampire than just looking hot, right? (Right?) What do you make of the news? Have you been a fan of either actor before?

3Ian could be a vampire but I'm not sure but the other one.Is this about teen vampires as Twilight or they are older?Those two don't look like teenagers even with a ton of make up.
4i don't know much about either guy actually but i do know nina. she seems like she could do ok in the role. we'll have to see. i wonder though if there are too many vampire things out there - with TrueBlood on HBO
5Yay for Ian! I was so bummed when he was written off Lost. Paul, not so much...he was a real snooze in Fallen, but maybe his acting has evolved since then.

9I think Ian is gorgeous but I have kinda soured on vampire stories because of those dang twilighters. I almost completely despise those screeching banshees

13I've loved Ian since he was on Young Americans, that amazingly guilty pleasure show that was on one summer on the WB. Kate Bosworth and Katherine Hoenig (sp?) from The L Word were on it too.

15I liked Paul Wesley in Everwood and some other shows he's been on. He often plays the bad boy.
16Somerhalder... eh. I mostly just remember him from an episode of L&O:SVU which was alright. He has beautiful eyes though.
And I'm not looking forward to seeing Nina Dobrev on the show. I wasn't much of a fan of her when she was on Degrassi.

I'll probably check the show out just to see, but I agree that the casting should have been switched. Somerhalder is WAY hotter.

19Really I think the two rolls should be switched. Paul Wesley reminds me of Emmit from Twilight, I don't know why. Sooo many vampires shows! I don't know what to think of this show :S

21I LOVED these books when I was like 11. I'm actually really excited to see how this show turns out. The one thing I'm kind of iffy about are the ages of these actors. Ian is drop dead gorgeous, but this whole story takes place in high school. Ian is in his early 30s. That's definitely stretching it.
22My friend told me about this the other night, and I'm very excited to watch Ian on TV again! He is BEAUTIFUL!
Although I know this will could never compare to my Twilight love, I hope it's good.
23Ian will be great as Damon! But that other guy I don't think so. Whatever. I am not quite sick of the Vampire thing but I agree with Whiplash on Buffy. This will be the show I watch alone in my room and never tell anyone that I watch and constantly complain to myself about how Buffy was better.

26I loved the Vampire Diary Books in middle school. I read all of L.J. Smith's books. Except for the last book in the Night World series.
27I'm not really a vampire fan, but I'll probably check out the pilot. I haven't read the books this show is supposed to be based on. I thought twilight was about the most poorly written book I'd ever read. I liked the moonlight show that was on (last year?) which was cancelled though.

but what is it with people being incapable of casting hot vampires? first the ugly rpattz and now this wesley guy? seriously, what?
31Wesley was on Wolf Lake as a werewolf, go figure and it seems a better fit than vamp. But I remain hopeful and optimistic. I love the series long ago and love the networks increased attempts at sci-fi, fantasy themes.
