Do You Think Robin and Barney Will Make It as a Real Couple?

The season premiere of How I Met Your Mother, "Definitions," made good on its promise (gleaned from my sneak peek) to show Robin and Barney as an actual couple. Alas, long-awaited relationships are rarely smooth sailing in sitcom land, and in this episode, Robin and Barney haven't yet established what they are, though the last scene was optimistic about their status. Usually having a couple get together and be happy can be boring for TV shows, but it has worked for Jim and Pam on The Office. Meanwhile, on Gossip Girl, the writers felt the need as early as the premiere to spice things up for Chuck and Blair so people won't get bored watching them.

Do you think HIMYM's writers will give us what we want and let Robin and Barney be happy together? And even if you like them together, is a happy relationship what you want to see?

I hope they will be together at the end and that they will love each other all the time, even though they will be separate for a while. I love Barney jealous of Robin. I hate Robin and Ted together. Robin was made for Barney!!!!!!!

I love them as a couple though as others have said, I think the writers will create a break-up then eventual make-up. Barney & Robin work well together since they both have relationship (or lack of having a steady one) issues.Loved the skits with Marshall using the whip and Ted not remembering how to spell "professor"; thankfully the student helped him,lol. Though that did not help his issue with being in the wrong room.

spoiler? i thought it was pretty obvious from last season that barney & robin were gonna get together. i like barney & robin together, but either way it doesn't matter to me as long as the show is still as funny!!

I think the only 2 out of the friend group that will be/are together are Lily and Marshall... I don't think anything long-term will come from Robin and Barney's relationship. And I think I'm the only one who likes Robin and Ted together, even though I know it won't happen. I loved Marshall in this episode-the whip!!

i think there's enough there for the writers to work with as them as a couple........ they both have that awkardness with relationships thing down so it'll be fun to keep them as a couple and struggle with that... they're soo perfect for each other. i love this show. i'm so glad it's back on.

They seem to be the perfect couple because they both have relationship issues. He has never really been in one and Robin leaves before it gets too serious.If we meeting "the mother" this season and Ted is with her and Barnie and Robin are together and Marshall and Lily it will almost seem to perfect.

i think its unexpected and fun for now. i like seeing a different side of barney. but i think the writers will have to shake things up a little bit eventually.

I understand ups and downs in a new TV relationship, but I will be so disappointed if they are not together in the end. BESIDES, Barny is like a brother to Ted, and Ted always refers to Robin as AUNT Robin to his kids... haha, ok kidding a little, but come on it works!

I hope they stay happy for at least a little while, and end up together in the end. But it's understandable if they break them up eventually, at least for a little while. But I love them so much! Teheee!

I think it's natural for the show to break them up, but eventually (I hope) they'll be together.

i'm not worried about barney and robin. if any show can handle a break up in a way to make you still like both characters its HIMYM. I mean, I still love robin and ted and they havent been together in forever.

I loved the premiere! Marshall KILLS me! From him and the whip, "NOT GOOD ENOUGH!" to the end credits where he walks into the bar in a tuxedo, "Didn't we meet on a yacht?" Ah, he is the best character. I also got a huge kick out of Ted's professor gig, from almost mispelling "Professor" to "Good Morning...Sup?...SILENCE!" So glad you are giving buzz (no pun intended) to this show!I thought they handled Barney and Robin the best way possible BUT I don't think they will keep them together long. Because then the only "will they or won't they" angst will be Ted and his future wife which doesn't quite work since she isn't on the show. I think the HIMYM writers have done the "get the couple together and not make them boring" thing with Lily and Marshall. After all, they did break them up for a little bit season 2. I think they are meant to be the solid couple of the show and Barney and Robin will have ups and downs.
