Today marks the start of TV Turnoff Week, the week when advocates suggest we move away from the TV and spend more time with our friends and families. Actually, I guess now it's just Turnoff Week, since we watch so many screens that aren't just our televisions these days.
I have an excuse for not turning my TV off this week — it's my job! My buddy Fit, on the other hand, is pretty thrilled at the prospect of less screen time. I'm curious: have any of you ever participated in a Turnoff Week?

I only watch Bones on TV and conan when he's on so my TV doesn't get used much.
1I answer an emphatic no. I'm on track to earn my BA magna cum laude, my social life, nor my work life suffers, I exercise regularly--even with all the TV I watch (which is a lot). Television has become a scapegoat for those who choose to blame their ill health and sedentary lifestyle on anything other a lack of personal responsibility. People don't need to stop watching TV, they need to change their diets and invest in running shoes and a yoga mat.
2I agree with Phil. TV is not the problem in most cases.
Besides, if I turned off the TV for a week, I'd just be catching up online the next week, anyway.
3I would NEVER! lol.... that makes me sad.
4This is rediculous... although sometimes parents need to be stricter with their children's TV viewing.
5Never have and Never will. I think I would really die from television withdrawal if I did.
6Nope, nor would I. I'm with Phil on this one.
7Why is it always during the week when the shows come back for their final string of episodes? ...Not that I could possibly do it anyway, but still.
8Never heard of it.
Is it 'TurnOff The TV Week' advertised on TV?

9exactly my thoughts, kaykayelle!
10Doesn't watching tv with family count as spending time with family? I mean you talk and watch, it's not as though you sit in silence
11I dunno.. I only watch Chuck/Heroes that my parents record for me weekly. Maybe a movie once a week from Redbox or something, but all in all we have less than 4 hours of Tv a week at our house anyway. In the summer we're too busy outside to watch very much. I put netflix on hold til September. Except for the damn max and ruby dvd my 4 year old keeps on repeat. UGh. I hate Ruby, she's so bossy!
12It would be impossible. i'm already behind on my TV watching! haha.
13nope never did, not gonna.
i agree - obesity isn't caused by TV!
14No Way!
15I prolly should, but no.
I don't watch a whole lot of TV--only 4 or 5 shows all week--so I don't think I NEED to do this.
16This is the first I've ever heard of it! So no, I have nor participated in the past. I wouldn't have a problem with it though -- but I would double my tv time the next week by watching everything I DVR'd during the Turnoff week. So it seems like sort of a moot point.
17no, and i'm not gonna. nobody's taking my shows away from me.
18I've never heard of it though I think it might be interesting to try
19No because TV is my friend and I would never turn my back on a friend.
20Kids, I made it through law school watching the insane amount of TV that I watch. I'm happily married and read A LOT. There is no reason to ignore my lovely TV.
21I guess I could turn off the TV but I can't turn off my cell phone (my only connection to my family and I live in FL...alone with no friends... and they all live in NJ or other parts of FL) and i Need my computer because I'm taking my Masters online and my research paper is due Sunday.... yeah kinda don't wanna fail this month... hahah
