As seems to be the case these days, this week's Grey's Anatomy had a bunch of things that worked and then a few major things that just did not. In the first category, we have some sweet Alex moments, the introduction of a new character who might actually make some sense, and Bailey being awesome. In the second, we have — well, you know. Ghosts. To talk about it, just read more.
The Good
- Grey's has added a ton of new characters this season, but Dr. Arizona Robbins is one of the only ones (along with McArmy) who actually seems to fit in. Yeah, she rides around on wheelie shoes and her name is Arizona, but she's also a well-respected surgeon who fights for what she wants.
- That's going to make life interesting for Bailey, because Bailey is used to being 100 percent right. She was just complaining recently that the job's gotten too easy for her, and — as the Chief said — she believes that most of the other doctors at Seattle Grace are a bunch of fools. It's a little sad to see her be wrong, but I hope this will also let her grow.
- Callie and Sloan? Totally rock. They're like their own little Intern-Sex Addicts Anonymous support group, except they're also both bad at restraint. I love their failed coping strategies — staring really hard at Joe the bartender! Making out with each other! — and "sorry, kid, I'm going to Denver" (which almost made that whole weird tumor plotline worth it).
- On a related note, it's fun to watch Lexie walk around like a woman who knows she can get what she wants.
- Alex is a total sweetheart, and it's kind of a shame that his best moments are getting wasted on a ghost story. Whose heart wouldn't melt after getting one of those lopsided cakes?
- Derek "dancing it out" with Mere is one of my favorite scenes this season. What a nerd!

The Meh
- OK, so Izzie thinks she can have it all, and by "all" I mean Alex and Denny both. And you know what? That's weird. Alex obviously has no idea how seriously to take Izzie's confession that she "sees" Denny. (It would sound crazy to anyone, plus Alex just isn't the kind of guy who would be all, "Whoa, maybe you should talk to someone.") So Izzie blows out her birthday candle thinking everything she wants is right there: a boyfriend who loves her and a dead ex-fiance who also loves her. This is not normal.
- So far, the serial killer plotline isn't clicking for me, though Eric Stoltz does seem creepy. But I was too distracted by him to pay much attention to how everyone feels about treating someone who slit a bunch of women's throats. Are we supposed to be worried that he's going to kill someone at Seattle Grace? It is good that we get an explanation for Derek's strong reaction, though.
- I get the Chief's midlife crisis, but if he's so concerned about his hospital being out of control, maybe he should go out and get it under control rather than mope in an isolated room all day.
- I still don't know why Sadie's here. Though apparently it's to shed light on Meredith's fight with Cristina, because Sadie and Meredith had a fight once too. There was something all cryptic in Sadie's "Then Amsterdam happened . . . " and while once I might have been interested in the slow reveal of the Amazing Adventures of Death and Die, right now I just want to get to the point.
Your thoughts? Did the good outweigh the bad? Do you think Arizona Robbins has a place in Seattle?

I really liked Dr. Arizona! I think she'll be a great addition! Although I have to say that there is no way that she'd be allowed to wear those shoes in a hospital nor would she want to. She's a pediatrician--I imagine that most of them know how dangerous those shoes are.
I am so unbelievably sick of Denny being there. I was saying to my mom last night how happy it made me that Gossip Girl wised up to the fans and nixed Aaron Rose. I wish Grey's would do the same.
I love love love Callie and Sloan this season. Aside from Lexie, they are my favorites.
1I still love this show. Even with the Izzie brain tumor/crazy/ridiculous story line... I just ignore those parts
I could have done without the Denver story (didn't think that acting was great), but it was good for that one Sloan moment. Totally creeped out by the Death
Row guy telling what he did. Still LOVE McArmy and glad that he's consistently in episodes. Plus, I like that they've been giving Christina real emotions that really show. I agree with Sadie
not making sense being here anymore, though her asking Meredith if she apologized to Christina like Christina might have had a valid point was a good rule for all of us. I've certainly
apologized to someone still thinking I was right! Overall, I'm really for the Izzie crap to be over and just keep moving with the other story lines. Still must-see TV for me on Thursdays-
it's like crack
2I love Cristina. She's seems so real to me. And, I think Sandra Oh is, hands down, the best actress on the show.
I like Bailey a lot, too, but something about her has been annoying me lately. I can't really put my finger on it, but there's something.
I enjoy Sloan and Callie as well. But, Lexie annoys me.
I like Derek last night. He never really annoys me, but sometimes I just forget about him. It was good to see him have a bigger role than it seems like he's had lately.
I do wish there would be more of a focus on the patients and on having realistic patient plotlines. There's so much they could do with patients and the emotions they stir up without things being far-fetched. "Normal" stuff in a hospital surgery wing is pretty gut-wrenching and emotional; not every story needs involve a rare illness. That being said, I like the story with the kid. I like Dr. Arizona and I liked seeing Alex's relationship with the patient.
Izzie seemed less annoying than in recent weeks, too. I feel like maybe they are trying to gradually ease Denny out. (But maybe that's just wishful thinking.) The first season I loved Izzie and I especially love Izzie and Alex together; hopefully they can bring some of that magic back!
3Take Denny's storyline out of it, and this was a good one.
4Someone make Denny go away forever! It's really driving me muts, i want to switch the channel everything they do an Izzie/Denny scene. The rest of the episode wasn't bad. Showing some potential. I agree, my favorite part was definitely Sloan & Callie - I love them!
5When Derek and Mere were "dancing it out" i hoped he'd break into "the african anteater ritual" he may be mcdreamy, but i still see ronald.
6I wasn't feeling Grey's Anatomy last night. Private Practice was more interesting to me. The Meredith and Cristina fight just got on my nerves. The story line with the serial killer was boring (although it looks like it might get interesting next week). I thought the story line with Bailey and Alex's patient was good... and I like Arizona too. But I will say Sloan and Callie kept me cracking up. I loved their story last night... and I hope something happens with Sloan and Lexie. And Derek and Meredith's dancing at the end of the night was just cute.
As far as Izzie's story goes, can we end it now please? Actually, can we get Izzie off the show too?
7I am waiting for the prisoner to attack someone on the show...
8i'm with you about sadie - and what i don't get is the little spe4each that she gave in the end about how she and meredith used to be really close until amsterdam and then it was never the same, yet when sadie first came back, they seemed to be fine.
as for everything else - well i just don't know. the preview for next week is even more weird- with the serial killer giving part of his intestine to the kid? um...ok.
9I need help - I missed the beginning and missed what the "fight" was about. Please fill me in!
10The fight was from weeks ago, when Meredith didn't stick up for Cristina when the interns did their naughty surgery. Then they fought in the next episode as well when Cristina had to choose the person for the solo surgery. It's just a really long fight, I guess!
Derek dancing = laughing hysterically! Loved it!
11I can't stand Sadie. She just doesn't fit in with the cast at all. And yet Arizona comes along and blends in with the cast after one episode...
As for not being able to figure out what the issue is with Bailey, she has this annoying habit of barking at her residents and yet turning into a blubbering idiot whenever she's around the Chief. His character doesn't even elicit that much fear, not even Cristina is afraid of him, though she does refer to him with respect (and calls him Sir). It's a weird dynamic. If the writers want a Chief who is a scary guy, why don't they make him command respect. At least then Bailey's character would make more sense...
As for Sandra Oh, she went to my high school. She's always been a talented phenom.
12Was the tumor lady Molly from Ugly Betty???
I liked this episode, aside from Denny, like everyone else. It even made me chuckle a little!
13i thought the tumor lady was ari's wife from entourage!
i agree with everything buzz said, except i'm intrigued by the serial killer plot. it is nice to see storylines with patients lasting more than one episode, it doesnt seem like that happens much.
callie and sloan=yay! sloan+lexie=yay! meredith and christina's fight= yawn. though i do love christina! i agree that sadie doesnt fit in, and of course the whole izzie thing is RIDICULOUS. i cant even think about it or it starts to make my happy feelings toward last night go away
14Last night's episode was okay. I liked Dr. Arizona Robbins and the serial killer storyline...can't wait to see how that develops. Like everyone else, I'm sick of the Denny/Izzie/Alex storyline and I hope it goes away soon. I was really shocked that the FCC didn't have a fit about the scene in which Alex performs oral sex on Izzie (at least thats what it seemed like) while Denny was watching! Gross. I thought Meredith and Cristina had already reconciled for some reason, but I guess they haven't. Meredith & Derek dancing at the end was cute.
15I seriously cringe when I watch this show now...I just think it is getting SO bad. I was a die-hard fan from the beginning, but I dislike it more and more each week.
16Arizona is a good character- far better than Sadie and the new cardiac doctor (who's such a great character that I don't even remember her name...). I look forward to seeing where they'll take her.
I realized when Derek was dancing it out with Meredith that that's the most animated I've seen him since the 2nd season. His character has been so drab and boring since then and that was his first sign of life in a long time.
17Oh, and I meant to add that even though I say I'll stop watching this show, but secretly know I never will, every episode that ends with NO explanation for the Denny ridiculousness I get angrier and angrier.
18I'm in agreement with Dragonflye. I also feel she's a lucky woman to have gone to highschool with Sandra oh.
19I really don't like Sadie.
20Maybe she'll get all "death and die" crazy and try to talk to Eric Stohltz and bye bye Sadie.
"...and while once I might have been interested in the slow reveal of the Amazing Adventures of Death and Die...right now I just want to get to the point." Buzz, I couldn't agree more! Sadie is almost as annoying as Denny. Oh how I wish they would end his appearances (and hers, for that matter)! Without Izzie's confession to Alex, though, he wouldn't have been able to deliver some of the best lines of the night. Anxious to see where the serial killer plot line leads and to watch Bailey adjust her attitude as she faces new challenges which (hopefully) allow her to grow.
21Funny how people have different reactions to the same episode...
As for my two cents, there they are :
- I absolutely love Sloane and Callie, as usual, after a while, the comic relief is the best thing left in a drama because comedy never gets old. I'm actually rooting for a Sloane/Lexie couple and hope that it will turn into something real (other than just mind-blowing -!!- sex).
- It's funny, McDreamy pulls out a knife out of a PDR (Prisoner Death Row) patient's spine and he (well, his character) gets his back ! His spine, that is. It's been ages since I've found that McDreamy was actually interesting. Good for him. The Cristina/Meredith storyline doesn't do anything for me. But it is significant that McDreamy only seems to exist with Meredith when Cristina is, on the contrary, gone.
- I'm with Lilkimbo, Bailey needs to get off her high horse because she's getting annoying. It's great that another loudmouth (Dr Arizona, nothing pejorative here) has finally arrived at Seattle Grace. Bailey will stop telling other ppl off.
- Am I the only one who doesn't mind Izzie/Alex ? True, I wish Denny was gone (for good, this time), but I like Izzie and I'm warming up to Alex. And damn this woman (Katherine Heigl) is beautiful ! Not fair !
22One thing I commented about right when it happened - Mer and Der have been together HOW LONG and he's just now getting around to telling her how he died?? I was venting to my husband about how ridiculous that was and he said maybe it was a way to show how little they seem to communicate...

24The whole thing with Denny as a ghost is getting out of hand. They need to end that, pronto. And Sadie, I really don't like her and I don't really understand her character either. Arizona was okay, I guess.
25I thought Eric Stoltz's character was completely unrealistic. Someone who was on Death Row for 11 years in solitary confinement would be so socially awkward and wouldn't be this calm sociopath type guy making quippy remarks...
26"I thought Eric Stoltz's character was completely unrealistic. Someone who was on Death Row for 11 years in solitary confinement would be so socially awkward and wouldn't be this calm sociopath type guy making quippy remarks..."
Oh yeah, do you know anyone like that?
27I liked this episode, though better than some not as good as others.
Denny should disappear. Sometimes I wonder how Alex became a doctor. He ignores things that are there, last year with Rebecca/Ava this year with Izzie. Though he's become a much better guy.
Sadie, she's not around for any real point other then to teach Meredith a lesson on not letting her with Cristina friendship go.
So far the serial killer storyline is really bothering me. More to do with it having no real place and the fact that some of the characters are acting like he deserves to not be treated like a murder.
Liked the Sloan/Callie moments, they make great friends. Also liked how they made Lexie not desperate and made Sloan the one who couldn't stop thinking about Lexie, and the one who gave in.
Oh, and I usually like Meredith but she was Mcb*tchy in this episode.
28I'm so ready to know what's going on in Izzy's brain to make her see Denny!! Maybe... serial killer dude is gonna hurt her, so she'll need an MRI? try to hurt her, she'll hit her head trying to get away and get an MRI? Grrrr! How awesome would it be if serial killer dude donated part of his liver/intestine to Jackson? That would be odd, a man that likes taking lives, giving his organs to save a life. I guess we'll see.
29Tired of Denny. Go away! Love Callie and Sloan..they steal the show right now and that's the only thing that is fun about it for me right now.
Lexie character suddent cofidnece in my her 'womanhood/power' is odd since right before she slept with Sloan she was all ... "oh I don't know what i am doing..." and bumbling around, esp with George and her relationship with Mer. And suddenly she's all cool and whatever with Sloan?
It also botehred me that Derek and Meredith never talked about his father's murder until now...I mean ..my bf and I talk about everything! Its hard to imagine it took Meredith that long to find out his father died under suspious circumstances..
30Alex is an idiot...your girlfriend tells you she is having SEX with her dead fiance and you are like "that's cool"??? WTF?? Enough with this storyline. The rest of the show is still good and that bs is pulling it down. Also, I get that apparently TR Knight wants off the show, but I miss George
. And come to think of it Derek gets like no time either.
