There's a fine line between confident, scheming Blair and petulant, tantrum-throwing Blair, and on this week's episode of Gossip Girl, we get a huge helping of the latter. Frankly, the whole pouty-lower-lip-for-daddy routine wore on my last nerve. I want to see Blair's misguided attempts at standing up for friends and getting what she wants, not stomping her foot and whining. But Blair is actually the least of my concerns this episode, as Dan and the teacher make one idiotic move after another. Let's discuss — just read more.
- Blair is officially on detention and has to clean up the park (Dorota does this, naturally) and whines to Serena about how sucky Rachel is. But Serena doesn't agree and tells Blair how much this new teacher "gets" her. Ha!
- It's funny, cause you know who teacher really gets? Dan. And she's gushing to him about his short story over breakfast where Serena catches them. Because that's appropriate — breakfast with teacher.
- Meanwhile, Chuck awakes to a new morning perplexed because he's having flashbacks to an Eyes Wide Shut evening that he doesn't remember. But there's sex! And masks! He must find out what this place is!
- Back at school, Rachel says she hopes Blair learned a lesson out there in the park, to which Blair responds sarcastically, "I made friends with a family of squirrels and had lots of time to think."
- Meanwhile, Serena confronts Dan about spending time with the teacher and Dan's all, "you crazy." And Serena's all, "Silly me, I should trust you."
- Blair's on the warpath against Rachel and summons her girls to help take her down, but they refuse: "Sorry B, this is your vendetta." Even a hilarious speech about liberty and all that they've worked for doesn't help.
- Until, of course, the announcement comes that cell phones are now banned from school. Whose fault is this? Rachel's, of course! Hazel, Nelly and those other ones in their bright coats are all officially on board to take Rachel down.
- Hazel gets the shakes because she can't check Gossip Girl ("Is a scandal still a scandal if you can't text about it?") while Nelly mumbles something about checking the Dow.
- But ha! Dorota shows up in disguise (dark sunglasses) to give Blair her cell phone. The other girls: "Thank you, Jesus!" Blair: "No. Thank you, Blair."
- And then Blair spots stupid Dan complimenting the teacher's stupid sweater while she blushes. Blushing is not appropriate, people! She immediately texts Gossip Girl a Mary Kay Letourneau alert with her contraband phone.
- Chuck, Nate, and Vanessa apparently have no use for school and are figuring out where Chuck went the other night. When they appear at a mysterious address, Vanessa muses, "Is this the Chuck Bass version of Narnia?"
- OK, so after there's a rumor going around that Rachel is having an inappropriate relationship with Dan, and after she uses the rumor to get Blair expelled, she then deems it appropriate to go have a candle-lit meet up with Dan? After hours?! Dan and this teacher are really, really stupid.
- Blair almost loses Yale, but then Serena turns on Rachel too and works a little phone-camera magic. One parents' council meeting and one snappy Damages reference later, Rachel's fired.
- So, she and Dan hook up, because she's already fired for the hugging, so why not? But then she's not fired, so, uh, whoops. Could they pack in more plot twists last night? Sheesh.
You know, this is good. Dan and Rachel's "courtship" makes zero sense, but it's a heck of a lot better than Dan and Serena talking out their "issues" all. the. time. Meanwhile, what do you think about Chuck's subplot? It made me laugh at first (the cheesy flashbacks, Chuck's melodramatic tone) but then I felt a bit bored. Time to sound off!

I can't wait until Miss Carr gets fired again! For good! And you're right, while this plot with Dan makes no sense, its way better than having Dan and Serena have the same conversation every episode about their "issues" that also do not make any sense.
1The positives: I think this episode had just the right amount of Nate & Vanessa. Enough so you know they're still there, not enough time to get annoying.
I continue to suspend disbelief as it relates to Yale coming and going at the drop of a text to Gossip Girl, but I thought the dad disappointment was more realistic.
For her "friendship" with Serena, I also thought Rachel was a bit out of line. But throw her in a plaid skirt and white shirt and she really could be one of the students, so I'm not terribly creeped out by her storyline with Dan - though it's inappropriate and sort of desperate
2I'm also over the neverending Dan/Serena issues conversations, so I'm not terribly sad to see them call things off. As long as they don't drag Aaron back.
But speaking of Aaron, what happened to his dad? I thought he and Blair were so cute together
3I hate Ms. Carr! I'm so glad that Blair's plot worked, even though it then didn't work, because that made it work even better (that made sense in my head). I am so Team Blair all the way, so I can't wait to see Dan and that "corn husker" go down in flames! Also, I really wanted B to hold a potato in her hand while talking about their legacy, because it totally reminded me of Scarlett's "I shall never go hungry again" speech.
Also, no matter what Ms. Carr did or didn't do, the outside meetings with students and deep talks about how she feels lonely at Constance, etc., etc. were inappropriate to being with. Bad teacher!
I'm not so sure how I feel about the whole Eyes Wide Shut plotline going on with Chuck and the nanny, although the Narnia comment cracked me up.
4Wow- there was a lot of rediculousness last night, for sure!
1) Dorota was in prime form last night, from her , um, excuse me, BLAIR'S community service to her back-ops cell phone drop. However, I have a big complaint- Handsome is going to live in France!?!?! GG- was it really SO difficult to work the dog into the show that you had to remove him after one episode?!? Although I am sure Handsome will enjoy eating la buisquet poolside while wearing his Chanel beret, I thought he added a nice touch of normalcy to Blair's very un-normal exsistence. Even if Dorota is the only one who ever took care of him.
2) Blair's dad really DOES present everything in baskets these days. Seriously, he is the nicest, most trusting dad ever- and TOTALLY believable in the way he backs Blair up publicly, even after realizing that maybe she kind of made the whole thing up. I love it whenever Blair's 3 daddies make an appearance- birth, French or step.
3)Ok, I cannot even wrap my head around the way the stupidity gene has been passed down amongst the Humphrey males. I mean, wow. Dan does so many unforgivably stupid things in this episode and still, even at the end, doesn't seem to get it that an ADULT TEACHER should and would most definitely be held in the wrong even if 'nothing' happened. Also, if he didn't see that this woman was totally putting the moves on him in a tease-'you can't really have me, so you're a safe flirt' kind of way, that may be the stupidest thing of all.
4) This is seconded only by the cumulative stupidity of Serena, Lily and Rufus. Seriously, I know Serena is not supposed to be the sharpest pencil in the GG box, but COME ON. And Rufus and Lily appear to be back to their lackadaisical parenting skills of yore.
5) Ok, essentially I have no interest at all in the Nate/Vanessa hook-up. Seriously, I have so little interest, it doesn't even bother me., But V scored one of my FAVORITE lines of the night with " The Chuck Bass version of Narnia?" when they get to the door of the gentleman's club/townhouse. LOL funny. And so true. It almost makes up for the incredibly annoying V of last week.
5)I sort of like the thought of Chuck pitting himself against a secret cabal of businessmen and international playboys or super villains or whatever they are. Particularly if it's so he can get it on with a hottie nanny again. It will give him something to do while Blair moons around about not getting into Yale. Or getting in. Or whatever it is this week.
6) Don't even go to the Yale thing. The unrealism there is just too much. So THIS WEEK, Headmistress Queller ( or her evil doppelganger or whoever that woman is) is suddenly worried about what Yale or others will think of the school?
7)Nelli Yuki and the girls were in great form this week. Are they really the only girls in school allowed to wear brightly colored coats? And did the school REALLY think it could confiscate people's phones and somehow solve the GG issue that way? I mean, even without access to a Dorota, I think most teenagers today could find a way around that one.
8)I am also pondering Rachel being some kind of friend of Georgina's sent just to get Blair in trouble and steal Dan from Serena. It just seems kind of pat and unlikely otherwise. And did anyone SEE the size of that woman's apartment??!?! She has to be independently wealthy or subsidized by a wealthy backer. At least Dan actually sleeping with her was interesting, as opposed to everyone just thinking he had when nothing had happened.
5Lol, tlsgirl, when Blair did her speech all I could think was "THIS IS CONSTANCE!" a la SPARTA. My fiancee started cracking up.
6First of all, the song at the beginning of the episode : It's a new day, by Will.i.am. Very cool hidden hommage to the P.O.T.U.S ?
Blair is still Blair. What changes is the reaction of the people around her. Like her dad didn't notice once that he was raising a scheming little brat ? Come on !
Blair still has the most comic lines, like "Serena is simpathizing with the enemy - I have to
cross her off my list of recruits" or "Thank you Jesus - NO ! Thank you Blair"... And I loved the epic music when she was doing her motivational speech.
Dan/Serena : how many times did they break up ? 10, 15 ? Oh well. They'll be back together in a few episodes. Don't really care anymore.
Chuck's storyline is BEYOND stupid. What now ? Secret meetings ? Kind of like the Bilderberg group sprinkled with an Eyes Wide Shut atmosphere ? I also hate that he doesn't seem to care about his former love (aka B).
Side remarks :
7- Dorota with sunglasses ! Yay ! SpyNanny is in da place !
- Mention of Jenny's former raccoon look. Do you think the writers read the blogs ?
- Nate and Vanessa are so boring and have so few lines that I'm starting to pity them.
This was prob my least favorite episode of GG ever. wh*re teacher needs to go ASAP. They just replaced 1 annoying character everyone hated (Aaron) with another. Can't they just focus on the ones they already have for a while again? Even give Nate a storyline again or something sheesh. Dan and Serena broke up like the same boring way they did the first time, blah. And hopefully something actually interesting comes outta this Chuck storyline cause it was just stupid and cheesy last night. Ok I'm done complaining just really hope this show redeems itself by the end of the season or I'm afraid it is doomed.
Does anybody know when the next episode is? There was no preview at the end. If they keep doing this 1 new episode every few weeks thing it is not gonna help their ratings.
8I love Dorota! She is a riot. It was nice to see Harold, but where in the world are Eleanor and Cyrus? Are they on a yearlong honeymoon? Pfft. Anyone think Aaron might be back soon? Hopefully they will recast the role.
I loathe Ms. Carr. They should kill her off and have a WHODUNNIT?
9LMAO reesie kitty!! I totally cracked up at the THIS IS CONSTANCE thing! All I saw in my head was Gerard Butler...not a bad thing.
10I really hate Rachel's character! For someone who is supposed to be a teacher, she is awfully stupid. I mean who meets students in a coffee shop after hours? When you are a teacher, you are not supposed to be friends with your students.
Also, I'm glad Serena and Dan are done. He has proved himself to be undeserving of the hotness that is Serena. Also, I thought he was supposed to be the smart one in the relationship? Clearly he is not so smart. First of all to choose Ms. Carr over Serena and second of all to start that kind of relationship with a teacher! That relationship is so creepy! Also, I hope the sex is worth it because her career is about to go out the window!
11I thought Chuck's story line was very disconnected, and was kind of bored with it. But was kind of intrigued in the end when the nanny's employer called to say she didn't come home--maybe that will get interesting?
I was on Blair's side with the whole Miss Carr thing--even before she slept with Dan she was totally wrong, even her friendship with Serena was too much--but I did like the ending.
But as always I loved the one liners (like the raccoon eyes mentioned above)...kind of boring but still my fave!
12WTF is coming on here??I am starting to hate this show(well, maybe hate is not the word, dislike would be better!!
13FIRST:no chair scene in all the episode???again????ok I am not askig for a come back, but seriously!!a hello blair, hello chuck would be ok!!OMG this´ becoming a joke!!
I can see josh laughing in his home when the episode goes on and everybody is freaking!!!
SECOND:ok I like derena but they were very boring lately and I was beggin for some action, but COME ON!!this is kind of disgusting!I "like" the last scene with the music and that but ughh. gross!!
THIRD:Dan character is pretty upsetting,he´s like the most in love man in the world and he just makes up with the first girl he sees(Georgina, the books girls in 02x01,now the slut teacher...)
FOURTH:another break until march??WTH are you thinking guys??It´s starting to be annoying!!And the worst thing is that I dont care what all that ends!!
FIFTH:the chuck´s Eyes Wide Shut SL is fine, but well not that captivating.
SIXTH:Oh N&V are soooo uselesss and not even cute...I want Nate with Jenny, that is really more exciting and interesting than that pointless couple!!
AND FINALLY: WHO CARES ABOUT THESE SL???please I want GG to come back!!!I some chair scenes would help!!
And I forgot to say:Most beautiful woman ever??best night ever??chuck???
14owww tht really hurts!!
I know, the nanny was pretty but I would never believe that Chuck thinks she is the most beautiful woman he has ever seen. Pfft.
I hated Chuck's storyline. Also, I agree that Dan does not deserve Serena. She is better off without him.
15As much as I love this show, I found myself shaking my head more than a few times during this episode. While I am glad that the inappropriate teacher provides a new plotline for Dan (other than him and Serena having about ten "super-serious" talks a day about whether or not they can make it work), I just found it hard to believe. Even before this episode, I had a hard time believing that the teacher would hang around with the students so much outside of school. Yes she's young, but any teacher knows that you don’t cross that line because it will surely lead to rumors (even if it's nothing more than hanging out). I agree with Buzz - even after the rumors start and the teacher realizes she may be in hot water, she thinks it's a good idea to go for a candle-lit dinner with the very student she was accused of having an affair with? Ok...
Then, Chuck's storyline was so random and out of nowhere. Not to mention kind of stupid. I got the sense that I was supposed to take it seriously, but I just couldn't.
And, to echo Buzz once again, it must be nice to be Nate and Vanessa and never have to go to school.
Okay, I'm done griping about the episode! I just hope GG can come up with better in the future.
16Meh- wasn't bad, wasn't good either. Chuck's story is super boring (although I guess Chuck without Blair is kind of boring anyway), Blair's story is a bit too much, Dan and Serena are very annoying, and Rachel and Dan are just EWWWW! Or is it just me?! I thought the last scene was super gross!
17I'm on board for anything this show throws at me. It was an absolute blast. Keep it up!
18XOXO!
I was not feeling this episode at all. Dan and Ms.Carr is just ridiculous - not the concept itself, which is not entirely unbelievable - just their absurd actions! The Chuck storyline is dumb so far. I don't get it, unless it has something to do with Uncle Jack - it could be interesting in the future.
19I was definitely disappointed in many aspects of the show. Dan & Serena -- like we didn't all see that coming. Dan being a douche and flirting with the new teacher -- check. Chuck having some mysterious, sexy encounter -- check.
Since I have not read the books - what happens after this year with all of the characters? I am aware of a couple potential spinoffs, but that's it. Does GG continue?
20i missed a couple weeks- i wondered if dan and serena had broken up- apparently they have. i need to catch up!
21I hope this is the end of Dan and Serena. For good!
22I was just telling my cousin/rommie that I hate episodes with no Chuck & Blair interaction. They are the real reason I watch. Where was Eric?
Buzz any idea when we can expect new episodes?
23Since when was it the writers' chief objective to introduce characters they know viewers will hate? And not love to hate - just plain hate. First Aaaron, now "Rachel." Dan has got to be the stupidest Smart Kid on planet earth. Showing up at this teacher's door at night? Seriously Dan?
24All right people, brace yourselves up. This link is a huge spoiler about what is going to happen. Don't follow it if you don't want to know !!
http://justjared.buzznet.com/2009/02/03/chace-crawford-kissing-who/
25Ok, I agree with a lot of what buzz had to say. Honestly Blair was wrong to start that rumor about Ms. Carr but hello breakfast with a student and then AFTER the rumor you have a candlelight dinner with him? Please you're just asking to get fired at that point. And I swear Nate was in his school uniform at one point in this episode yet he never made it to school. I wish he had a part in the main storyline like last season.
26dan and ms. carr acted pretty stupid, but come on! cut them some slack! serena should have never given that photo to blair without at least talking to dan. he's her boyfriend for a reason! i guess she didnt realize she was partially destroying his future or something. i'm super mad at both serena and dan for not thinking before acting.
27oh, and i think blair is so going to murder nelly yuki for telling the truth. same nelly whose future she destroyed by making her do badly on the SATs. blair needs to seriously chill.
28For the first time in Gossip Girl history, I wasn't very excited about Chuck's plot. They are usually a bit more interesting and I didn't get where it ended up. Blair is still funny to me. Poor little Dorota has to be her sidekick though. And that Damages reference was priceless. And that teacher? Rachel is so annoying, I mean it is a good character, but I wish she were more conniving instead of pretending to be all sweet and appropriate. So I just lost my job because someone said I was romancing my student so why not sleep with him after all! Yeah that's some good class discussion. Yay! Dan and Serena are over. And why is Jenny even on the show anymore? Her little cameo didn't do much for me at all.
29Lots of good one liners in an otherwise boring episode.
Chuck: His subplot was kinda random, but it fit with his character. Felt more like a set-up episode with a bigger more interesting plot to follow in later episodes. Needs more Blair though.
The -other- plot: The hell? I usually love Blair, but she was in rare form. It was nice to see her dad actually parent and her feel bad about her actions. Hopefully no more of Dan and Serena. And Rachel and Dan? Wow, how amazingly dumb. Everyone involved -- Serena, Blair, Dan, Rachel -- needed more thinking, less doing.
30hey guys, most recent info I saw (but not confirmed by the CW at this point) is that GG is in repeats till early March. They started the season so early, there should only be seven or eight episodes left, so they'll have to take some time off between now and May sweeps.
31Good riddance to the S-Lonely Boy saga! I was growing tired of their issues too, and he's just become too self-righteous, predictable (ie. S gives him the cold shoulder and he finds solace in some brunette) and hypocritical. S needs time to get over Dan for real this time.
Rachel needs to get Blaired eventually...and I hope it's good
And I just read spoilers from E!'s Watch with Kristen. OMFG! I won't know what to do with myself until May
lol
32I could be wrong, but I don't remember Dan telling Ms. Carr that he and Serena had broken up before they slept together. As far as she knows, they're still together. Think this was intentional or a little detail that the writers overlooked?
33leighton meester has a tattoo on her arm, BUT... i think they usually cover it up with makeup. in the scene where serena goes to blair's house to show her the picture of dan/rachel, blair TOTALLY has a tattoo in the same spot chuck had his "mark" from the gentleman's club! check it out! i'm totally not joking.. i wonder if there is a connection there or if the makeup people just forgot to cover her tattoo?
34Buzz, that sucks! I will miss my weekly GG indulgence.
35Loved Blair this week. Love!! She had great outfits, hilarious lines, and a hand in breaking up Dan (whom i loathe) and Serena. Couldn't get any better.
Amazing episode!!
36I was so not happy on Monday. Slept right through Gossip Girl, One Tree HIll, and CSI: Miami. Ohh how I do not love staying up till 4 am for the sake of my Lit paper...
Blair is one of my favorite sources for humor. Sure in that episode she was a bit tantrum B instead of the normal B.; but it was definitely entertaining and worthy of my attention.
Chuck, in another life; you are the love of my life. I loved his trippy memories and scandalous moments. Those are signature Chuck Bass elements.
Vanessa is starting to rub me the wrong way. Don't know what it is just yet, but, she's so close to my nerves.
Dan needs a time out! Seriously, someone please punish him. Preferably Blair...
37Serena needs to take a longer look at her new/ex teacher. That woman is plotting something... What looks nice is not always that way. I'm waiting for her the real war to get started. One episode is not enough for that character but hopefully she will be better or just as good as the previous people to take Blair on.
Loved:
Dan to Jenny "raccoon eyes" comment
Blair to Dorota "Did anyone recongnize you??" Like big sunglasses hides the facts that she's wearing her little maid tiara thing.
It was frustrating how Dan kept saying but Rachel didn't do anything wrong! Um, 1) you're calling her rachel 2) all the students know where shi lives 3) meets students for off campus meals???? Did you do those things in highschool with your teachers? Come on, Dan.
38I'm on Team Blair. No matter what she does she's definitely going to Yale, so whatevs.
39Dan is such a douche to not see that the teacher was coming onto him. You do not meet your students out of school!!!!!!!! Or let them call you by your first name! Dan and Serena need to figure out if they are going to be together or not. GET IT OVER WITH.
Chuck and Blair need to get together, I think GG should focus on that!
Nate and Vanessa are boring, they need to break up and make things interesting, such as JENNY AND NATE LIKE THE BOOKS SAY!
Dorota is one of my favourite characters! She is so cute!
This is the first episode of Gossip Girl that I've ever watched and I must admit, the whole teacher-student thing bugs me. Big time. I was teaching abroad for awhile and the number of people who had "inappropriate relationships" with their students was appalling. Granted, to me, one was appalling... So this has totally turned me off
40Miss Carr needs to get fired. She's freaking annoying. I like her as much as I liked Aaron. Yuck.
41I agree with most of you guys comment. I really dont like Mrs. Carr. She gets B in trouble for righting that stuff on Gossip Girl but then she has inappropriate candle lit dinners with a student. Not very smart on your part. Cant wait till shes off the show. and the whole Chuck story line? I will take "Random" for 300 Alex..kinda came out of no where with that one. So to sum up everything.
421-Dan and Mrs Carr= Hell no!! Doesnt make since
2- Serena and Dan= Enough already. Either stay together or break up.
3-Chuck and Blair= Really? no interaction whatsoever...
4-MARCH!!!!!!!! So are we trying to piss off the viewers..I cant believe i have to wait until march for a whole new episode...ugh!
I will repeat what I said in the CW forum:
So many things that are just messed up in this episode!!
What happened to C’s love for B?? Just because there’s a mistaken night with someone intended for his FATHER. Omfg. C, I believe in you, go to B. Not some fancy play girl.
And D! Suffice to say, I have no respect for him anymore. Looks like Ms. C and D are the same when it comes to moral issues. Poor S, I wish Headmistress Q would catch those two on the act. Since she’s going to inform Ms. C bout rehiring her right? (Cross-fingers ladies!) Another thing bout D, just because he and S weren’t together when he committed the heinous act, doesn’t save him from the fact that it wasn’t wrong in some level. And S was willing to put the Ms. C incident BEHIND. But what was D doing when S was making amends? He was legitimizing the rumor that started it all!
Can’t wait for 9th March for the next ep!!!
43i actually do not mind ms. carr (although i think i'm sorely outnumbered). she's brainier and certainly a better match with dan than serena. teacher-student relationship is yuck though, regardless how small the age gap.
but i will say that this episode was horrible. even great lines were somehow offbeat. first ep where i realized (and could see) how GG could go downhill.
dan and serena - off again or on again? i rolled my eyes when they broke up.
44MARCH 9TH?!?!?!?!?!?!? WHATTTTT. Hurry up March, geez. Stupid producers...making us wait.
45This episode was alright but they need to make the storylines more even between the cast members. Jenny was barely in the episode, Eric was nowhere to be seen, and Nate & Vanessa were only in the episode to help Chuck find that mysterious place he went to the night before (and they all skipped school??? wtf). I don't care about Dan & Serena anymore since this is like the millionth time they've split up, but this storyline with Dan and Miss Carr seems really rushed (as do most GG storylines). They need to learn to have better pacing. Anyway, even though Dan and Rachel (Miss Carr) weren't having sex until the end of the episode, their relationship was very innappropriate and she should have been fired for that. Chuck's storyline was kinda intriguing but it came out of nowhere. I thought Blair was acting immature most of the night, but I think this whole Yale debacle with the Headmistress is getting ridiculous. They need to stop all of the back-and-forth, college acceptance is WAY different than it is portrayed on the show.
