7 Reasons We're Psyched For Game of Thrones Season 4

Jan 15 2014 - 2:16pm

Now that the first Game of Thrones season four trailer [1] has come out, we're counting down the days until the show's return on April 6. There was plenty of memorable moments [2] that had us laughing, crying and sitting at the edge of our seats last season, and if the preview is any indication, the upcoming episodes will be no exception. Now that Jaime Lannister is back at King’s Landing, how will he influence Joffrey, and what will come of his relationship with Cersei? What’s next for Daenerys Targaryen, who seems to be at the top of her game, or Arya, who’s ready for revenge? Get excited for Game of Thrones with a look at seven storylines we can't wait to watch unfold.

Jaime's Return to King's Landing

It’s been a rough time for Jaime Lannister. He's been tied up and held captive, and let's not forget that he's now missing a hand. With his heroic rescue of Brienne from the bear, Jaime showed some surprising compassion, but now that he’s back home — looking clean and as hot as ever, we might add — it’ll be interesting to see how his time as a prisoner may have changed him . . . or not. And then, of course, there’s Cersei. Is he going to fall back into a creepy, secret romance with his sister? Ew.

More of Tyrion's Wit and Wisdom

Last we heard, Tywin and Cersei are trying to convince Tyrion to have a child with Sansa, but that doesn’t quite fall in line with his love for Shae. So far, Tyrion’s been able to use his smarts and creativity to work the system, but his words in the trailer signal that it may not be so easy this time around. "Things are intense right now," he says. "I don’t think I’m talking my way out of this one." In any case, fingers crossed that he stays true to himself, telling it like it is and bringing some much-needed humor to some of the show’s heavier moments.

The Next Badass Move From Daenerys

With the people of Yunkai calling her “Mhysa” — aka “Mother” — and the dragons on her side, Daenerys Targaryen is in quite the cushy spot going into season four. She and Daario Naharis have some serious chemistry brewing, she’s been freeing slaves left and right, and her army continues to grow. What crazy-cool move will she make next? Or with so many things going her way, is the other shoe about to drop?

Joffrey's Relationships

As per usual, Joffrey thinks the whole city loves him, but Jaime’s quick to remind him that the war’s not actually over. Meanwhile, the arrogant king is engaged to Margaery Tyrell, and the jury’s out on how that wedding will go. First of all, will "I do" even happen? Between the bloody red wedding and Tyrion’s drunken reception with Sansa, the show’s nuptials have a pretty rough history, and that Margaery with her sneaky side eye seems to have something up her sleeve.

Arya's Fighting Attitude

Ugh, poor Arya. The young Stark saw the direwolf’s head on her brother Robb’s body, and she made her first kill after murdering the man who sewed the head and body together. At this point, the girl is not happy, so with The Hound backing her up, we’re expecting to see Arya channel that rage into even more revenge. And maybe, just maybe, we'll get to see her reunite with Bran or Jon Snow? She could really use some love.

All Things Jon Snow

Now that Jon Snow is back at the Wall and alongside his friend Sam, is he preparing to battle the White Walkers? And if that wouldn't be wild enough, he’s also left Ygritte royally pissed off. Remember that arrow she aimed at his heart? Ygritte doesn’t exactly seem like the type to let things go, so we wouldn’t be surprised if she goes after Jon. But whatever, he’s cute when he’s brooding, and we think (hope?) he can handle it.

Shock and Awe, as Per Usual

A chopped-off hand, a bear fight, a literal d*ck in a box? Season three was more than a little shocking, to say the least. We’re not sure anything could top the red-wedding madness, but chances are, season four will carry even more crazy moments that have us, well, freaking out. What kind of suspense and surprise is ahead? And seriously, what in the world is coming next with all these White Walkers?
