The Grammy Awards rolled out the red carpet this evening with a one-hour live show to celebrate their 2010 nominees. (Check out photos from the event here.) The night featured performances by previous winners like the Black Eyed Peas, along with the announcement of the acts who will be competing for the special honor. The results? This year is all about the ladies. Taylor Swift has already run away with the majority of awards in 2009, and she's towards the top here too, earning eight nominations including Record of the Year and Album of the Year. But somewhere out there, Kanye West is smiling, because his girl Beyonce bested Ms. Swift tonight with a total of ten nods.
As for me, I'm especially happy to see Lady Gaga get recognition in multiple categories following a disappointing run for her at the American Music Awards. Also worth noting — the boys of The Lonely Island are nominated for their music video "I'm on a Boat" featuring T-Pain. Nice to see the nomination committee has a sense of humor.
We'll find out who takes home the golden record player when the awards show airs on Jan. 31. To see who made the cut, just read more.

Wow, this is a really sad and somewhat confusing list. The Tings Tings and MGMT cds are from 2008, so why are they nominated for best new artist? I love both bands but they're not techinally 'new.' At least the nominees for Best Alternative Album are good, but the bands I like on that list probably won't win. But hopefully Life in Technicolor ii wins it's categories.
1Everything That Happens Will Happen Today, David Byrne and Brian Echo
Not Brian Echo it's Brian Eno
2Thanks for catching that, amybdk. All fixed!
3myfairlady -- It is my understanding that it doesn't matter what year the album comes out but when it gets airplay. MGMT really started to get airplay this year. And in order to be nominated for best new artist you can't have been nominated for something before (which puts Lady Gaga out since she was nominated for Just Dance last year). I think the nominations are pretty good this year
.
4this is a stupid question but what is the difference between "best record" and "best song" ?
5lulu88 that's not stupid at all actually. I really couldn't tell you. Maybe best Song focuses more on lyrics instead of beats and tunes?
6Hey lulu88 and flickster: funny story; we were actually discussing that exact topic this morning at Sugar HQ. As it turns out, "best record" of the year credits both the singer and the producer of the single, whereas "best song" must be awarded to an artist that wrote the song as well as sings it.
7best dane/electronic i'm super excited for! they picked the best nominees with the best music this year! but i have to say... when did grammys lose focus on the voice? i love black eyes peas, kings of leon and beyonce and thought they were all very deserving but - i dont know... i feel some voters just looked around said oh shes famous nominated them. i love top 40 music, but i dont think its always the one that should have to win the grammys.
8I'm rooting for Gaga too
9love lady-gaga she s awsome
10aw thanks buzzsugar!
11Tel me we had no nigerian artist on this list?
12I see Keith Urban has been nominated a few times I think he is so multi talented and also so down to earth. I'll be watching for sure just to see him on camera.

34I really dont understand how anything from Mastodon's "Crack the Skye" album hasn't been nominated for anything, its easily the most creative, original, and kickass album of the year...easily.
and you spelt MEGADETH wrong...its not spelt with a second "A"
35According to the Grammy website, Miley's song "The Climb" isn't up for an award. It should have been though! It's a great song (even if you don't like Miley).
