Is Family Guy the Best Animated Primetime Comedy on TV?

There was a bit of a gasp heard yesterday when the 2009 Primetime Emmy Awards nominations were announced and Family Guy was listed, right alongside shows like 30 Rock and Entourage, in the Outstanding Comedy Series category. It's a triumphant moment for all animated comedies everywhere to be recognized even this much by the Emmys. But as cool as this is (and it really is cool), I have to wonder: is Family Guy the animated show most worthy of an Emmy nomination?

What do you think? Does it make sense that Family Guy is up there with other big-shot comedy series? Or do you wish a different animated series were nominated?

South Park all the way! So smart. (The episode where they make fun of Family Guy is hilarious.)Not to say that Family Guy isn't deserving. I just think that there are others that are way better. Simpsons should have an Emmy by now. It's so ridiculous that they don't.

No. Family Guy can't go a full 60 seconds without saying or expressing sexual content.The Simpson's and King Of The Hill would probably be better for the award nomination.

South Park is better, in my opinion.Even though I find Family Guy very funny, we have to admit it's almost a shameless plagiarism of The Simpsons -- which is not as good as it used to be, but the first 10 seasons are still better than Family Guy.I'm with all the ones who are pointing out the fact The Simpsons deserved the honor (of being nominated) a lot more than Seth MacFarlane's cartoon.

South Park is better, in my opinion. Family Guy was good before it got cancelled the first time and then came back. The Simpsons isn't as good as it used to be but it is still better than Family Guy and deserved this honor far more.

i have to go with KOTH too. it's an awesome show and Hank Hill is one of my favorite animated characters, he's honest, believes in what he believes but still manages to be respectful of others. did i mention that he's really kind. that show and it's writing and the characters def. deserve a emmy nom over FG (though i watch that show too) i think the emmy's are trying to show how hip they are by choosing a "hip" show.

I LOVE Family Guy. I even got my mum watching it :P I do think it's the best animated comedy show today and the Emmy nomination is well deserved. Good job Seth :D

I love Family Guy, it's my favorite animated comedy :) although I have to admit this past season wasn't my favorite.

I'm glad there's an animated series in the running...Family Guy's pretty awesome. I haven't watched the Simpsons in ages so I can't comment on that...and South Park is pretty good, but recently I've found that it seems like it's trying too hard to be shockingly/strangely funny. Then again, I live off of [adult swim] - Robot Chicken's pretty awesome, but not in the same league (not worse! just not the same!) as most Emmy-nominated shows. :D
