Fall 2009 Romantic Movie Picks

Nine is not just this year's musical, it's this year's musical event. Curiosity alone will get people to the theater, since it boasts the singing and dancing of Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Kate Hudson, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Fergie, but the larger-than-life feel of the songs and dance numbers is what's luring me. Also appealing to the film geek in me is its pedigree — Nine is derived from Federico Fellini's seminal 8 1/2. It could be this year's Chicago — same director and all — with all the hype and Oscar possibilities that implies. Nine opens Nov. 25.
