Emma Watson to Find Some Perks as a Wallflower

It's a far cry from Harry Potter, but I'll take it: Emma Watson, most often known as Miss Hermione Granger, has found her first post-Harry role: she's in negotiations to star in the film adaptation of The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

The bestseller is a beloved coming-of-age story about a teen boy who writes letters about his adolescence, and it seems that that part has been clinched too. Logan Lerman, who most recently appeared in Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief, is also in talks to appear.

i've read the book and it was fantastic! but i'm not sure that Emma Watson fits the character of Sam. Sam, as i have imagine her in the book, has this adventurous air in her, a little rebellious and dark, strong and confident, and i just can't see Emma Watson as Sam. Hope this will work out though because i really really love the book. and i hate to see injustice on the characters and the story in the big screen

i love the book and i think this is a horrible miscasting, logan should not play charlie he is to good looking and he doesn't have the akward feeling that charlie had, i think kristen stewart couldve been a better sam, because sam is more like some angsty hipster and hermione does not look like a girl who smokes or curses or something like that lets just hope for the best

I am currently reading this book. Emma as Sam. Wow! This ought to be interesting. Comparing Hermione Granger to Sam and they are completely different! I am eager to see how she does it. I have faith in her though! :) (I wonder how the accent is going to work, maybe she will have to lose it DX )

Emma as Sam?! You're telling Hermione Granger to not only ditch school but also smoke, drink and curse! But, well, if she can do it...we'll see. I really love Emma Watson and I love Logan Lerman, but I'm not exactly sure of their totally out-of-their-usual-characters roles. Well, they're great actors so... we'll see?

I think Emma could potentially be in this movie. NOT as Sam. I see Emma more so as charlie's sister...I personally don't feel that her acting style is Sam's style at all.

I read the book. The book was awesome, I loved it. I also love Emma Watson. However, she is not right for the role of Sam. Sam has long brown hair and GREEN eyes, and I just do not think that Watson can take on Sam's personality.

See, I was not fond of Sam in the book at all. All she did was toy with Charlie's emotions, and it made me think of her as, well, kind of a skank. I really think that Emma Watson could change my opinion of her. Yeah, it'll be weird to see her smoking and drinking and stuff. I really hope she can pull it off, though. She is just so sweet, and I'm hoping that she could bring some of that into the role and change my perception of the character.

The thing that I'm concerned about overall is that Emma Watson just cut all her hair off... And Sam doesn't have a pixie cut in the novel. Also, Emma has brown eyes and Sam has green. And her green eyes are one of her more important features... To be honest, I'd rather see a bunch of fresh faces in this movie, instead of actors with movies like "Harry Potter" and "Percy Jackson" behind them... That being said, I like Emma Watson. Just maybe not as Sam.

Well I hate to burst all these kiddie bubbles but Emma is playing Sam in the movie, so she will be drinking and smoking and swearing. Good for her in my view, after all she has to grow up and away from Harry Potter eventually and this will allow her to.

Also, Sam is a senior in highschool, while Charlie is a freshman. Sam's gotta look a look more mature and "experienced" than Emma Watson. Truly disappointing. I agree with an above comment: her fanbase might cheapen an authentically life changing novel.

Sam has brown hair, and "very very pretty green eyes." Though hair can be dyed, Emma's brown eyes cannot be turned green. And don't think contacts will be able to live up to the one physical feature Charlie loves most about Sam. It really is a shame if Emma plays Sam. Logam Lerman is dead on, though. I truly hope Emma ends up playing Charlie's sister, that's the only character I can see her playing.

I approve! I have read the book so many times and I am still skeptical about a movie. As long as it doesn't turn into a pre-teen free-for-all like Harry Potter did, she would be great. She should play Sam's character. And that Logan Lerman kid looks a lot like how I imagined Charlie to look... I'm really looking forward to this movie.

Just finished this book yesterday. It seems that this role would be a challenge for Watson because the character Sam is completely different than any other character she's ever attempted to play. I really hope she takes the role though, because I'm sure she could pull it off. This is definitely going to be one of those indie films such as garden state. Or I really hope that it will be! It'll be interesting to see Watson as Sam chain smoking, drinking, and doing drugs with her on-screen gay brother Pat. BTW she's supposed to play a sr. in high school, whereas Charlie is only a high school freshman. Logan Lerman is going to make an awesome Charlie though. EXACTLY like I pictured him to be in the books. Lets hope Emma accepts the role and these two can both pull it off. I can't wait to see the rest of the cast!!

So cool! How AWESOME is this news??? I would LOVE to see these two in a movie together. I’m assuming Emma would play Sam, which is a completely different character from the ones she usually plays. It will be really nice to see her get to show off her range. Emma is one of the rare actresses who can play anything: drama, comedy, romance, horror, etc. She’s very talented. I also love Logan Lerman and of course, John Malkovich. I really really hope this news is true!

Interesting! I never would have thought of her as Sam, but I bet she could make it work. Not sure I buy Logan Lerman as Charlie, who I always pictured as being sort of scrawny and sandy-blond, but if the acting is good then that's what's important.
