It can be a little obnoxious when the few movies featuring middle-aged folks finding love are melodramatic and poorly done, a la Nights and Rodanthe, which came complete with horses galloping on the beach. I am thankful when Hollywood pays attention to this age group at all, but I feel like there's room for improvement.

So it's a wonderfully pleasant surprise to see a romantic movie starring Emma Thompson and Dustin Hoffman that looks sweet, plausible, and quirky.

Last Chance Harvey takes place in London, where Harvey (Hoffman) has traveled to attend his daughter's wedding. Even though a wedding ought to be cause for celebration, Harvey's world seems to be unraveling around him and he meets Kate (Thompson) just as he's hit bottom (in a bar, naturally). The story looks sweet and hopeful with both of these tremendous actors sparking a nice chemistry together.

Weight/body issues and Hollywood unfortunately seem to go hand in hand. I heard that two time Oscar winning actor Emma Thompson threw some of her star weight around (pun intended) with producers at Miramax, where she is working on an upcoming version of Brideshead Revisited. It seems that Miramax was demanding her costar, Hayley Atwell, drop a few pounds. It happens all the time; a studio asks an already fit actress to slim down for a role, but Emma provided a little reality check to the situation and took matters into her own hands.

Hayley explained the situation to the First Post like this:

I went round to Emma's one night and she was getting very angry that I wasn't eating all the food she was giving me. I told her why and she hit the roof.

The next day, Emma called the producers and threatened to quit her role if they forced Haley to lose weight. The studio quickly relented. Look for the two actresses in the upcoming film version of Brideshead Revisited. As an Anglophile, I can't wait.

I echo my pal Leslie at the Weighting Game when I ask, "Emma Thompson, will you adopt me?"

Of course, beautiful little Emma Watson was front and center for her favorite fashion house alongside fellow fashionistas Thandie Newton (who will literally not miss a party these days) and Claudia Schiffer among others. From looking pretty adult to looking perfectly age appropriate here, Emma Watson is quickly becoming a favorite starlet. Checking out new Chanel and schmoozing with some of the most respected actresses and models in the world? Not a bad way to spend a chilly December night.

Glamor reined last night in London as some of the greatest models ever got together to celebrate at the Victoria & Albert Museum's Golden Age of Couture Party. Eva, Claudia, Elizabeth and Kate all looked simply gorgeous, but my girl Fab wants to know who do you think wins the Battle of Old School Supermodels? New school fashion sweethearts like Agyness Deyn and Thandie Newton held their own on the red carpet against the couture titans. I'm sure Miss Anna Wintour (who Fab got a few glimpses of at NY Fashion Week) would have a thing or two to say about all the beautiful red carpet ladies. Hey, maybe even Kevin Spacey could weigh in on the old school vs. new school models? Ha.

The sauce was apparently free flowing at last night's Lavender Party, eh Sienna and Emma Thompson? Thandie, on the other hand, looks clean as a whistle. Seriously, though, it's excellent that these women were all out in support of the UK's Breast Cancer Awareness Week (Lavender Week), but it's mostly hilarious that Emma looks hammered. In her defense, however, I don't think that is actually her turquoise underwear you can see through the dress, as Paris rocked the same frock last month and you can see the same blue line. So unless they're wearing the same thong (shudder), I gotta believe it's meant to look like an entirely unsightly underwear line.
