This picture is a good depiction of why some rock and roll purists object to Madonna's inclusion into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Compared to her fellow inductees this year — or even just other rockers like Iggy Pop (pictured) — it does seem like the Queen of Pop might be out of place.
However, the King of Pop, Michael Jackson was inducted several years ago and the Hall of Fame is the appropriate place to permanently honor music giants, a category Madonna clearly falls into. The worry is that it's a slippery slope to a Hall of Fame saturated with pop stars.
What do you think? Does Madonna's career earn her a spot among rock and roll legends?

Yeah of course! She is a legendary and innovative singer.
1What a bizarre photo! I love Iggy and I also love Madonna. I think she belongs in the hall of fame, especially since MJ is in there, but it's because she's legendary. I mean, she's been around for decades; she's earned it!
Now, Britney or Jessica Simpson, on the other hand... I'd say no.
2she's lasted what, 20 years??? yeah, she belongs.
3This poll is misleading. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame doesn't only represent the musical genre "rock and roll". In fact its members aren't even all musicians.
4This discussion was on in the morning on the local radio station. I think the name "Rock & Roll" Hall of Fame is wrong. They clearly honor ALL musical giants. Even the queen of SOUL Aretha Franklin is in there. The should change the name.
5They really should call it the Music Hall of Fame or something, but whatever it's called, she belongs there. She changed music.
6She's an icon that spawned a million copycats. A lot of her music is timeless and she is a consumate performer.
7She definitely belongs there.
Duh.
8I think she belongs..
9Madonna deserves to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame; she earned it.
10I voted other because my 'no' isn't because she does pop. It's because I just don't like her. I realize I'm in the minority, but ick.
11Is there a pop hall of fame?
Do you think that what Madonna does would have been considered Rock n Roll when the Hall of Fame began inducting amazing recording artists? I think in the spirit of the Hall of Fame, Madonna qualifies as Rock n and Roll. Pop is just a sub-category.
12I don't like her. Not her, or her music or her style. I don't think she's a good role model either. She might be iconic, I don't know, and I don't care.
13i absolutely think that she deserves to be in the HOF - she's been around for ever- and her style continues to evolve and she's an icon...so there's really no debate on my part!
14She definitely deserves to be there!
15I just find it completely weird that she could even get the votes to get nominated. I realize her getting in so soon... that there seems to be interesting voting going on. Is Journey... REO Speedwagon... even been nominated? ELO? Styx? I mean really fantastic rock bands?
Geez Ronnie Spector just finally got in within the last couple of years. Whom I consider a true talented singer.
16She earned her place. Afterall, pop is a watered down version of rock and roll. I kind of wish she would go away now though and Justin with her.
17YES, She is the diva of pop!
18Of course she deserved her induction. She has persevered and her music has been relevant for the past 2 decades.
19Yes! It's really the modern music hall fame not necessarily rock n roll only.
Madonna has shown innovation and longevity when most people thought she was flash in the pan trash. I know I did when she first came on the scene. I thought "whew only a few more months and this chick will go away forever!" I'm glad I was wrong.
20Madonna deserves a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...but not before Rush is inducted! Sigh.
