Do You Wish All Awards Shows Were Strictly About Handing Out Awards?

The Golden Globes are so much fun to watch, what with the drinking, rowdiness, and funny mix of beloved movie actors and TV stars. As the show clicked along, it occurred to me that it's still so fun even though there aren't any musical numbers — or even a host!

It's wonderfully efficient, and we get right down to the business of winners and speeches. On the other hand, there's zero opportunity for things like this Josh Groban performance at the Emmys.

So tell me: Do you wish all awards shows slashed the extra stuff the way the Globes does?

Ehh I don't know. Sometimes I like the musical numbers, but sometimes they drag on and on. The most irritating thing about award shows is when it's SOO obvious that they are rushing. You know, when they practically push people onstage to present awards and they cut the winners' speeches short after only a few seconds. Ridiculous.

I detest all the non-sense that the Oscar's insist on airing... that I just record them and watch them. So I can fast forward through all the BS and get to the awards. I do like the speeches... and the montage of whomever is chosen for the special Oscar given for a life time of work. But all those horrible dancing and singing routines is just annoying. And adds up to 1/2 of the show. And why no one really wants to watch 3 hours of a show that could be done in in half that time. I do love the chatting and red carpet that stuff that E! has done over the years... it is fun to get a good look at the clothes in good natural lighting.

I live for musical performances at awards show. I'd never watch anything with that gag-tard Groban, but a hot show with Christina, Justin, Beyonce all singin' and shakin' their rumps...I'm all about it!

I like award shows that get right down to business, hand out awards. I think if it were just that format, it would be more bearable for the average viewer that isn't into award shows. And yeah dino dino, I hate the cheesy award show music. The GG song is still the same after every year, and when it gets stuck in your head you can't get it out even if you hate it!

Instead of slashing the extra stuff, they should just slash the awards shows. I hate watching these.

If all shows were like the GGs, it would get old fast. We'd start focusing on who couldn't hold their liquor and stuff like that. When the Oscars are done well, I like watching the film clips -but the elaborate dance segments that go with the songs almost always leave me cold

i've never seen the golden globes but now that i know they don't have all the super boring performances that i hate in award shows, i might actually watch them next year.

yes and I also think Ricky Gervais should be tapped as a host for all shows. I love whenever he comes out to present awards. it's always awkwardly hilarious!

it depends on what you're tuning in fori don't have patience for boring slow musical numbers at the Oscars but the Grammys or the AMAs for example are awesome for their upbeat and fun performances

The best thing about the GGs is the lack of musical numbers and overly long tribute speeches and montages. They just got on with it. Even the HFPA boss made the bestest, shortest speech of all!! Good on him!

I actually enjoy the awards portion and care about which film wins what, so I don't mind the lack of performances.

Yes, I prefer that they just hand awards. I'm watching to see who wins. Some award shows like the Oscars try too much with adding musical numbers, tons of montages for any reasons and irrelevant dance numbers (Why did Riverdance appeared to the Oscar once?). Then there are monologues by unknown persons in the industry and you have a 4 hour long show with the interesting awards handed at the last 20 minutes.

The GG's have been really never been about who's the best actor what the best film is etc - it's about The Hollywood Foreign Press. Its always been about which "celebs" they feel are worthy of an ward and which actors will show up for the photo op based on media interest not talent. And most the GG's are about which actors were nice to the members of the Hollywood Foreign Press (which includes many many tabloids & pap photo agencies) and which refused to play nice with the stupid interviews.Occasionally the HFP cannot help but give an award to a great actor but often they are about giving awards to the sentimental favorite, the long shot, the dark horse, the comeback, the seasoned pro on the media trial who is willing to give them an interview during the year. Then again the named Pia Zadora 'Best Actress' for Butterfly because her then husband paid them to give her the award and because she did tons of promotional press with agencies in the HFP.

it all depends on what the trade off is. to be honest, i don't care about watching who gets what since i can just see a list of winners online the next day. i LOVE the performances and that's something that you don't get with the GG's. with the Oscars they do though so that's kind of ok.

yes i hate the awful music at awards shows. but i also think there shouldnt be any speeches because they are dumb and annoying and awkward, there should be more alcohol served and it could be like never have i ever except instead of questions, like every1 that doesnt win an award has 2 take a shot

Ugh, no way...I hate watching awards shows. They are so boring. I only tune in to see the fabulous red-carpet fashion.
