Do You Want to See a Live-Action Where the Wild Things Are?

Details about the live-action adaptation of beloved kids' book Where the Wild Things Are have been trickling in over the past few months, from this NY Magazine piece talking about the quality of Dave Eggers' script, to the news that Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs will be doing some music for the film (which is directed by her ex Spike Jonze). So far, I'm liking what I'm seeing about this project, though messing around with favorite childhood books always sends up some warning flags.

How do you feel about a Where the Wild Things Are movie? Could it be great, or is it just totally unnecessary?

there was a 'where the wild things are exhibit' in downtown san fran a few years ago that was really cool. a little boat for the kids to sit in and "sail" off. the monsters were huge and there were things to run through and go under, over, etc. i took my middle daughter when she was about 3, so that was 5-6 years ago i guess. she loved it. the monsters in this story are sort of cute so the littlest kids just get a little scared. sounds like good fun, we'll see this one.

I've had enough of my favorite childhood stories and heroes being made into movies. It seems that no one in Hollywood has any original ideas anymore. It's either old books, old movies, or foreign movies being remade into American ones.

I mean.. it's not like it's a book with a LOT of substance. It's a kid's book. How could you "ruin" it? I think it'll be badass.

Oh I just saw that it's being directed by Spike Jonze. Could be cool still, but I would have loved to see this from del Torro. Maybe he will direct the final Harry Potter :)

Better live action than Robert Zemeckis and his CG actors. Though I'm sure some of the effects would still be CG. But I think this could potentially be really cool, especially if someone like Guillermo del Torro (Pan's Labyrinth) were to direct.
